You could try getting a babysitting job on the side working for a friend of the family or maybe even a neighbor. Make flyers advertising your services and post them at the nearest library, grocery store or child care center. Another option is that if your really good at a specific subject start a tutoring service doing the same thing by advertising your business with flyers and such. if neither of these options work for you go to www.meetmark.com. click on "find a respresentative" in your area, fill out the form and a mark rep will contact you. mark is a line of makeup and beauty products created by Avon but targets a younger audience. you can start selling these products as early as 16 years old and it's really easy and fun to do. you pass out magazines, give free samples, set up appointments and clients buy products from you. you get 40% of everything you sell. it's an awesome way to make some cash. good luck with everything :)

The other thing you can do is offer your services at home; figure out a schedule for washing dishes, cutting the lawn, vacumming the living room, etc. Your time is worth money, and if you tread delicately your parents will be willing to help you out.
From their perspective, I know they are thinking it could be a waste of money. I mean, I got a ring from Josten's and now it sits in a box in my parent's basement. To combat this, I would think about WHY this ring is special to you - if you have reasons, then it'll be easier to convince your parents.
