I get whistled at, hooted at from trucks, minorly harassed A LOT. It's harmless, and a little of it I have no problem with, but it gets annoying.
It's reeeeeeeally hot most of the time (I'm writing from Mexico, and I usually live in Southern California), so just covering up isn't an option, and it doesn't seem to help. I tried it one day when it was cool outside and got just as much unwanted attention as usual.
I've tried being a bit aggressive, but I don't know these people and most of the time they just laugh. Also, it doesn't stop it from happening the next time, which is all I really care about.
So, how can I stop guys from doing this? Is there anything I can wear that's nice and cool but utterly unflattering?

I have found there is little pattern in what guys find 'honkworthy', so even wearing unflattering or heavy clothes doesn't deter some guys. I've been catcalled in my most unflattering outfits, including jogging bottoms reserved for cycling. In any case, why should you have to hide yourself away and be uncomfortable in the heat because of these guys? I'm sad to say it, because it's not something you should have to put up with, but unless something which is really offensive is actually said, it seems better to just hold your head high and ignore. russianspy1234 answered Monday August 30 2004, 2:29 pm: so your complaining because you are too hot? i know girls that would kill for that kind of attention, but i guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. anyways you could make yourself ugly if you really want. chop off most of your hair, where a minimizer bra. loose shorts that dont show off your but. slouch when you walk. i dunno what else [ russianspy1234's advice column | Ask russianspy1234 A Question ]

behindxthesexeyes answered Sunday August 29 2004, 9:33 pm: Oh gosh, I know exactly how you feel, at first it's flattering, you know all the beeping and the yelling and everything, but then it gets to a point where you feel like you can't walk out your door without being harassed. The best thing you can do is ignore it, because no matter what you wear, they will still honk and holler. haha, true story, one time me and my friends had JUST rolled out of bed, messy hair, no make-up, pajamas, and we were walking my friend home. A van full of guys pulls up and starts hitting on us, asking for numbers and screen names and such. I couldn't believe it, especially because of how discusting and horrible we looked. Hahahah, the point is, just stay cool and keep walking. If anyone harasses you to the point where you feel your life is threatened, use a near-by phone or cellular to call someone who can help you.
