AquamarineRose answered Saturday August 28 2004, 2:59 am: I am the pro of tooth extractions.I can't even count on my two hands of how many I've had pulled.Umm...it doesn't look like you'll be having an IV put in you so you don't have to worry too much.Laughing gas is kind of cool. You will feel spaced.Just don't get up to quickly when your done. The shots of novocane ,I'm not gonna lie, aren't fun. They shoot the shot around the entire tooth into your gums.I warn you though watch out for the sound of the tooth detaching itself from the root. Makes the grossest CRUNCH noise you have ever heard in your life, seriously. It shouldn't be that bad though.Don't get yourself all revved up before you go.Relax.Or else you will be a raving lunatic. After you are done you will have an excuse to eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's.Cause trust me you won't want to have any solid foods. XxTBSgirlxX answered Friday August 27 2004, 8:12 pm: well the novicane needle hurts like a bitch, they inject it into your gums where your getting the teeth pulled and that gas is awesome, makes you feel stoned (you'll be fine) ask if you can be put under, they can do oral surgery too (thats usually better) [ XxTBSgirlxX's advice column | Ask XxTBSgirlxX A Question ]
Ask_Anything answered Friday August 27 2004, 6:34 pm: haha this is a perfect question because i had the same exact thing done! [but i had 4 molars pulled]. well for where i went, they sit you down in a seperate area and they tell you what's going to happen. [the procedure]. they put a mask over your nose that has oxygen in it first, then they slowly add the laughing gas into it. laughing gas does NOT hurt- it's just kinda weird. anyways, they give you the shot to numb your gums, and because the laughing gas is making you a little bit drowsy, the shot is no big deal. the shot makes it all numb and when they pull out the teeth (depending if there are roots or not) it shouldnt cause too much pain- just a little pressure. the more of the root they have to get out- the more pressure. the nice thing about laughing gas is that your all funny feeling but still able to respond if the dentist asks you anything. when i had laughing gas, if you felt uncomfortable with the gas at any time, you just needed to breath through your mouth and everything will be back to normal. [its kind of hard to explain what it feels like... i guess you could say a dreamy kind of feeling]. i was extremely nervous as you are too, but once its over with, you'll be like... "hey! it's overwith now!" lol BIG HELPFUL HINT: TAKE TYLANOL BEFORE AND AFTER THE PROCEDURE. and be ready to not be able to talk for an hour afterwords because you'll have gause in your mouth (the soft padded things to get the blood). good luck! and dont be nervous, you'll be fine! =] -ask_anything
ps: if you have any more questions about it, ill be glad to answer them- just leave one in my inbox!
Edit: when you breath through your mouth [if the laughing gas gets uncomfortable] you get the oxygen back in your system and instantly you come out of the dreamy state. You won't have the effects of laughing gas until you breath through your nose again. [ Ask_Anything's advice column | Ask Ask_Anything A Question ]
uhohitsholli answered Friday August 27 2004, 6:34 pm: hm. well i've never had my teeth pulled but i do know that they use a shot of this numbing stuff that leaves it tingling for a while and it stops the pain. it basically depends on how severe it is and how long it will take. or on what is available or what ur dentist prefers. dont worry the dentist is awesome and he should know what hes doing. LiLBoYCrAzYBaBe09 answered Friday August 27 2004, 6:29 pm: I had five pulled at 1 time be4. U cant imagine how much pain i was in.... newayz....
The give u a shot in your gums around the thooth that is going to be pulled. In the front and back. Then they wait til its numb and cant feel it, and they pull it out. You can feel it a little bit, and feel them pulling it. But no pain. Afterwards, your mouth might hurt a while when the mubing wares out, but not 4 long. But no pain. Hope I helped and tell me how it goes!!!! [ LiLBoYCrAzYBaBe09's advice column | Ask LiLBoYCrAzYBaBe09 A Question ]
Karen answered Friday August 27 2004, 6:25 pm: Umm, well they numb the gum around the teeth that they are gonna pull and then they just basically pull your teeth out one by one. They use like these big tweezers to pull the teeth out. After they pull out your teeth, they might put some cotton balls over the hole where your tooth was. That's basically what they do. If your gums start to hurt, put some of that tooth sore thing over it and it won't hurt that much. I hope I helped and good luck :) [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
