Sensitive Subject

Question Posted Thursday August 26 2004, 8:40 pm

All right, so my friend is always making fun of me. Even if it is just jokingly, I get really mad after a while because some of the stuff sort of hurts sometimes, you know? And if I make fun of HER, she gets really mad, like it's only okay for her to do the teasing. I finally tried telling her that I don't like it when she does that, but she keeps doing it anyway. She just says I'm being too sensitive. What should I do?? Am I being too sensitive??

You are not being too sensitive. Maybe your friend feels the need to make fun of people to mask her insecurities. Tell her that even though she doesn't think it is a big deal, or that what she says is hurtful, it is. If she is a true friend she will respect your feelings and what she says to you. If she keeps doing it, you might think about having another friend talk to her for you. Maybe if she gets another perspective besides yours she will realize how this affects you.
