dad

Question Posted Monday August 23 2004, 5:09 pm

AHH my dad treats me like I'm 5!! I mean I can't do alot of things by my self..I can't wear tank-tops in front of him...He thinks I can't take care of the dog because I'm too young? HELLLO I'm 13!! I'm a freshmen..at this age it's really hard to keep high grades..yet I still have to keep my grades above 95? Plus I'm alot more mature then a 13 year old..because like ALL my friends are 14-15..and he expects me to do alllll this work and stuff..and when I get hurt he thinks it doesn't hurt at all..but he still treats me like Im SO little!!! I swear he talks to me like Im 5...gR I've tried talking to him...but it doesn't work? What should I do?

Welcome to being a teenager. Just grin and bear it. He will give it up, someday. As far as the above 95 thing, my dad did that too; if it wasn't a straight A it wasn't good enough. He just wants you to be able to get a scholarship and go to a good school. He's having a little of the my little girl is growing up syndrome. My dad wouldn't even let me wear halter tops or anything that showed my belly button (and I probably wouldn't either now if I had a child). He is just trying to take care of you.

Are you ignoring your chores in taking care of the dog? Pour your energy in to proving him wrong in what you do, not what you say.

Why dont you prove to him that your responsible, you cant really hold down a job at 13, you have to be 15 or 16 before you can start working, Take care of the dog, You are still kinda young but you need to let your dad know that you can be mature and just talk to him about it, tell him hes bein to hard on you, but you know if you were so grown up maybe you could realize that he just cares about you, and you are growin up! Thats hard on parents! Good Luck! :*:SaRa:*:

Okay- I would say to CALMLY talk to him! he cant stand his little girl is growing up!! dont worry, just ask him why hes treating you so young but still giving you all of the chores and responsibilities of a 13 year old.... DO NOT use the term "everyone else is doing it" or he will come back to you with "well, if everyone else jumped off a bridge...." so think it out before doing it... i also liked the idea of the girl or guy who said "dad let me help you up the stairs"

don't worry i c wat u mean the same thing happens to me. my dad expects me to act all mature but if im mature than y cant i do things i wanan do. its cuz ur daddy's LIL girl. i think wen i want to do things i debate it with my dad until we both get a fair deal. dont push it but tell him that since u have been keeping ur grades up and working hard that u shud have the chance to live the life of a teen instead of wasting it. life is gonna go by fast so y waste it not doing anything fun. tell him how u feel and even if u have...try to tell him ur emotional side..i hope this helps

your dad treats u like a little girl because he doesn't want to get over the fact that his "little gurl" is growing up but give him some time because soon u will be off on ur own and u will miss him.but in the other hand if he bugs u so much about dumb things tell him ur growing up and u need to be responsible 4 some things and so on and if he doesn't get it then bug him till he gives up thats wut i do but im still not aloud to do wut most my friends do but it sucks!!but i get use to it cause they wont be there forever.u know wut i mean? well good luck..:)

Rebel.

You could always start treating him like an old man.
"father..can i help you walk up the stairs..you are looking rather frail today.."
Purchase some adult dipers for the guy. I am sure hed enjoy that.
