Calves

Question Posted Wednesday August 4 2004, 1:23 pm

How can I make my calf muscles bigger? I hate running unless it's soccer and I'm not playing at the moment, and I'm past pueberty. Also, I have weak ankles (they get sprained a lot when I play soccer), anyone have advice for that?

well the best way to build up your calves is to do long distance running. it's not very strenuous, but it does test endurance. if you really can't stand it though, there is a machine that can help. i can't explain it though maybe in your local gym has one?

You could try going to physical therapy. I did that for my weak back, and it helped a lot.
Good luck

there are a good number of exercises you can try... for example: stand on the edge of a rail, brick, block, piece of wood, anything... have your heels hanging off the edge and go up and down on your tippy-toes. Once you're sure that's getting lame, do it again, but use something like bungee cords or large rubber bands to pull yourself downward while you do it to add resistance, or hold free weights while you do the lifts.
