My boyfriends parents just said he could have the basement as a room to hang out in. He gets minor water leakage in one corner. We are going to move all the storage into the garage. the walls are already painted and in good condition. We are just going to use this room as a hang out. Any ideas or themes? Don't forget its all cement and has cement poles in there. Only 2 windows too.

Unless you want to become depressed, I would brighten up the area with some fun light and bright colors. Whites and yellows will make up for a lack of natural light. Be careful that you won't be breathing mold down there, which could be dangerous. The leaky corner needs to be addressed and taken care of pronto. You might want to limit furniture to stuff that is light or easily moved back to the walls to open up space for a dance floor for parties. A big clean rug is a good investment, along with a few bean bag chairs. If games appeal to you, there are larger table games like air hockey, ping pong etc...or just a stack of board & card games, including Twister in a bright colored bookcase. You want to have a place that is fun and full of conversation starters. Good luck!

This sounds like the coolest space ever!! Ok here are some ideas. You were talking about making a themed room. Well here is one idea, ask me later if you want more ideas. Do you two like movies? Well if yes find some old movie posters at a thrift store/flea mall and put them on those ugly posts to make them stand out with style! Get some long bright red curtains to put on those windows. Tie them to the side with gold rope with tassels (to give it the old movie theatre look). Again go get this stuff at walmart or thrift stores to save money. Then get two old pieces of furniture. Somthing with like one or two drawers. Decoupage the tables or watever they are with magazine clippings of movie stars. The decoupage stuff should only cost a few bucks at wally world. Set up your tv/home video system in a good spot, along with a cool thrift store couch. I think you could take over from here, just look at the room and see where you can add little touches.

well my boyfriend and i use his basement as a hang out room and we have black lights and stuff like that we really dont have a theme but we just like fun stuff ya no black chairs and lil tables .. you kinda have to think about what your really into and then just go with it ...no fuzzy stuff unless its a rug or something

Try pottery barn teen. they have some canopies that you can set up indoors and outdoors and i think that it would be pretty cool to have one to hang out it. also if there is gonna be a TV set up just a pile of pillows instead of the couch or both. just make it kind of fun. you could do anything. hope i could help!

you should use like his favorite sport team as a theme then it would be personal to him and he owuld enjoy it you could put up some posters and stuff and paint the walls the teams colors

i think that you should do sumthin like tiki maybe you could find some palm tree sculptures or sumthin i mean the look is just relaxing and calm. or if you wannna make like a lounge area you could find some bean bag chairs and love sacks and add a black light or so. and if you want you can hang up posters to give the room some personality!

Posters are always good. Buy some posters for his fave bands and movies and put them on the wall.
Get some cool chairs, like bean bag chairs or inflateable ones. Something cheap that looks a little different from normal.

hmm. Well he is a guy so maybe you can go with a good theme. Like you can make the wall black and use colors like red, blue, so its not totally dark. I would stay simple. Hes a guy.. he probably doesnt want anything too complicated.. and if hes really looking for a theme, then go with stripes! Stripes are fun and if they're darker colors they're good for a guy. Use different color lights and it will give the room some personality.
