you just give people advice and people can search for a certain advice columnist...

You become a level 1 moderator by having an average rating of 4.0 or higher.
You become a level 2 moderator when another level 2 moderator becomes inactive and some great being in the sky decides you'd make a good level 2.
Level 1 mods can rate question quality. They decide the little smiley faces next to the questions.
Level 2 mods can rate question quality, question answers to questions that they did not ask, and can suspend users.
