It's basically saying that he needs to let go of the girl he lost, but he doesn't understand why, so he keeps asking it. He's doesn't want to let her go, but eventually he let's go, and trys to let everything pass him by. I also think he's saying that he said some things that he regrets and he wants to get rid of thinking about them in his head. It's pretty much about him missing his girl.
