Is she telling the truth or fishing for attention?

Question Posted Friday April 30 2004, 1:43 pm

What should I do? There's this girl who I used to go to school with and now I talk to her over the internet sometimes. I'm really confused, though, becasue every time she speaks to me via AOL she always comes out with stories about having epilepsy fits and stuff, not "Hi, how are you?", but "I had a fit in english yesterday... don't tell anyone." I'm really confused because I don't know if she's being honest about it or if she's just fishing for attention. Help!

i dont think your friend is being truly honest with you. i think she is probably a nerd at school and is trying to get you to think shes really popular! i think you just need to talk to her and ask if all the things she says are true and jusr reason out with her!! Good Luck!

I always assume someone is telling the truth until I have proof they aren't. You can have your doubts, but I wouldn't say anything to her until you know for sure. Saying you have epileptic fits seems like a wierd way to get attention.

I would talk about other things. Sometimes people give you clues. For example she might slip and say she did something else during the time she was supposed to be having a fit, or she might mention something about a reaction someone had to her epilepsy. Just steer away from the subject of epilepsy. You'll be able to tell if she is honest with time.

If she starts a conversation about "hey guess what happened to me" she wants the conversation to be about her. I would say she is deffinetly looking for attention wether she is telling the truth or not. She may not have a lot of friends and is trying to get your attention by asking you to take pitty on her. If you think she is lying, call her on it.

Its never to easy to tell if it is over the internet, like I have friends that tell me that they got jobs at producation companies anf small law firms. So its hard to tell but because I know they never lie I know they are telling the truth. But if I decide to go into a chat room and talk with people, I get people saying oh yea yesterday I was hanging out with Hilary Duff, then I was recording my cd but I can't tell you who I am. So when it comes to stuff like that then you assume you are being lied to. SO there is no way for tell if they are lying or not.
