Listen I'm 14 years old and I am above the 9th grade level in my reading and writing but i'm home schooled and so I have tought myself pretty much everything that I know. (I posted a question about not having an education on here before) Well I really want to be a Pastry Chef. (Yes there is a difference between a Pastry chef and a Chef.) But I'm not sure what kind of grades I need to get into a Culinary School. I know that my reading and writing really doesn't count but I don't know what kind of grades I need. Like do i need to have more than just good grades to be a pastry chef? I really love baking and baking anything that is like for dessert or sweets. Get the idea. I am really good at it too. I want to go to college to become a Pastry Chef and then get my own business and sell desserts/sweets. I want to call it "lil' bare's Pastry's"
So really any advice would be appreciated.

A Pastry Chef In The Making
jbdreamer answered Thursday March 18 2004, 10:07 pm: It sounds like you are a pretty hard worker, so I wouldn't worry about not being accepted to a culinary school. Your grades don't have to be perfect. You just need a passion for cooking, which it sounds like you have. Be creative, come up with your own recipies, and make a portfolio. That is what they are looking for, and would expect from you. Your still young, so don't stess about college too much yet, you still have a few years to research your options. Good luck future Pastry Chef! [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]
