Okay, I'm only in the 8th grade but lately I've be thinking about my future and college. Well I've thought about it really hard and decide that I want to go to Yale University. The only problem is I don't know what requirments it takes to get excapted. Like how well do I have to do in grade school? What should my scores be? Any one who can give me any info would be great!

I'm not completely positive on exact requirements but expect to have a 3.8 GPA or higher and between a 27-35 on your ACT. Do some research and make sure you know what your getting yourself into. I've changed my major at least three or four times throughout highschool before I finally settled on one. Your only in eighth grade, you have plenty of time to decide.

Google is great and if your family is ever in a city that holds a college, you should visit it to see if you like it. You should especially start young so you have wide options. Picking a college that you can enjoy and go to graduate school is awesome. [ tropiicalXsplash's advice column | Ask tropiicalXsplash A Question ]
alpha answered Thursday January 29 2004, 1:10 pm: First of all, go here:
It doesn't really matter how well you've done in grade school -- they only really start looking at your record once you hit ninth grade. Mostly what they're looking for are kids who are both serious scholars and interesting human beings. That means that you have to go beyond getting good grades just for the sake of the grades -- you have to be genuinely curious about the world around you. SAT scores are important, but there are tons of kids with amazing scores who don't get into the top schools because they don't have anything going for them but numbers.
All that said, it is way too early for you to decide that Yale is the one and only school for you. It's great for you to have high goals, and you should certainly apply to Yale if you think you'd be happy there -- but you have to understand that, to some extent, the college applications process is a lottery. A college can't possibly accept *all* the wonderful, talented kids who apply -- there are just too many! When the time comes, research a lot of schools, apply to several (say, 4-10), and realize that you're very likely to find terrific classes and good friends at any of them.
(FYI, I didn't go to Yale, I went to Harvard, but my advice would be the same no matter what selective college you were interested in.) [ alpha's advice column | Ask alpha A Question ]

Cspinoza1 answered Tuesday January 20 2004, 6:11 pm: Yale, well if you don't want to be on a waiting list you need to have about a 3.0, be involved in at least 2 extra curricular activities every year, have an Act score of 25 and up, top reccomendations from the school. But let me ask you this, What do you plan on picking for your Career? Because there are some degrees that you cannot recieve at Yale, mainly technology its best to go to a specialized school because most universities don't update right away.
dwarp answered Tuesday January 20 2004, 6:01 pm: Yale is a very prestigous university. I'm not sure of the exact requirements, but I would suggest you do quite well in school. With more kids wanting to go to college each year, and more scholarship oppurtunities becoming available, things aren't going to be easy for you when you finally do graduate. Be as studious as possible, and get involved in extracurriculars. School's don't only look at your grades, but how involved you were. Join the swim team, or try out for a play. Have a good relationship with your teachers, and try your hardest at everything you do. Lastly, have some other schools in mind. Think about what you want to become after college and look for schools with the best education in that area. Not everyone's going to be able to get into Yale, so keep that in mind. Also, don't spend your whole childhood planning the future, you've still got a lot of time to think about it, and if you always think about the future, you'll never live the present!
