mysterious house plant So I have this plant. I can't identify it, trust me I've tried, but I know it's common... big green waxy leaves, one flower on a long stem that's white with one petal and this white spiny thing in the middle? But that's not my question... the problem is that this plant is just perpetually dying, it a really awful and depressing way. I water it almost every day, I repotted it, it's by a window where it gets a decent amount of light I think, but 80% of the time it's just wilted and sick looking. I don't know what to do. It could be a nice plant, I feel really bad that it's so crappy looking.

Is this a stephynotis (sic)? Some plants do better with a little neglect. It sounds like too much water. In what direction does your window face? If you live in the frozen North East (as I do) keep it back away from the window. ]
It's a peace lily. I'm 100% sure on that. Prune off the dead stuff. Stabilize any shoots that look droopy and take your baby to the nursery. I think you're just over-watering it. Actually if it's a lily...it should look a bit sparse in the leaf department and shouldn't have more than one flower at a time. I think your main problem is a lack in the grooming department. In any case take it to the nursery.

I'd take it to a nursery. Not for babies, for plants. Ask them what it is. If it's some weird kind of plant, maybe desert, it's possible you've overwatered it. I'd definitely try to find someone with knowledge in plant life, and a manager of a nursery is probably as close to a botanist as you can get. Unless you can get a botanist. ]
You might be over-watering it.If it's adapted for a dry environment then it does NOT need watering everyday.Has it got thick, fleshy leaves? If so then it's probably a desert plant.
EDIT-
They have this plant in my school office waiting area!I might be able to find out what it's called. Make sure that it isn't pot-bound. Put it in a larger pot.Don't water it to often.Dont give it too much sun. ]
I know the type of plant you are referring to, my grandfather has a few at his house. It's best if in the summer it can stay out side, in the winter this type of plant needs more sunlight than many, also lighten up with watering, water it when you touch the soil and it's pretty dry to the touch. You may also consider a light fertilizer, to sprinkle a little in there... If it’s flowering, cut off the flower (i know its pretty but the plant is sending nutrients t save the flower rather than itself... That should help your plant out. ]
