Question Posted Wednesday October 25 2006, 5:56 pm
I'm a junior in high school, and it's now 2nd quarter. The past few weeks I haven't cared about my grades, and I don't know why. And, so they slipped. Now, I'm caring a lot more. I just need some good study habits to help me. What can get me motivated to study and do realy well on tests and homework? Anything good will help me. Thanks!

That's what I do, I want to be a pastry chef, so I look at the Johnson& Wales cooking school pamphlet and see all the soon-to-be chefs pursuing their dreams and it gives me a clear image of who and where I want to be. Homework is the way to get there hehehehehe!!!

Basically what motivates me is a time limit. If you tell yourself 'I need this done by 5', then you can push yourself to do your work and have it done for the next day.
I also think a good way to motivate yourself is call a friend. Yes, that sounds more like just chatting, but it really can help! While your on the phone, mention that you have some work to do, but allow yourself to be on the phone while doing this. Maybe if you need help, their right there!
A really good way to study for tests is study a small portion each night. For example, say you study Greece one night. The next night, test yourself on Greece, and then study the next portion, Rome.
Another good way is to study in the morning before school. You may ask, why? Because if you study in the morning, the knowledge is fresh in your mind and hard to forget.
XkittyOkatX answered Wednesday October 25 2006, 6:54 pm: Give yourself a reward for studying and doing well on tests and quizzes. For example, if you do badly on a quiz, don't let yourself hang out with someone, or talk on the phone. Maybe don't let yourself on AIM or something for a day, so you can study. It will teach you consequences, and how to disciplin yourself .
Good luck. =) [ XkittyOkatX's advice column | Ask XkittyOkatX A Question ]

I find that the only thing that motivates me is the great feeling of passing a subject! if i did bad on a paper i would feel really awful.. whereas if i did well i would feel great- like i could do any career i wanted to really. That should be all the motivation you need.
Try to get your homework done as soon as you get it. That way it is done and out of the way- you have the time to do the things you want to then without it playing on your mind. Also, your homwork doesnt build up untill you have a mountian of it you cant face!!
To do really well on tests i suggest that you start revising early for them , after all, you cant learn a years worth of work in a week, never mind a night. Try different techniques until one works for you- it might be copying the same information over and over again, or it might be writing all the relevant information in colours with pictures and highlighting. Sticking the information on your wall is a good way as you make youself read it whenever you look at it. Also.. focus on aspects of the subject that you dont know about and understand- after all you cant learn what you already know!
I hope i helped you! i know its pretty basic information but its all i do to keep on top of everything- and i am a A student!!
