I have a college induction day tomorrow, where they go through your subject choices and you get to meet people at the college... it's a private college (there was a test to get in and it costs alot to go there) and the dress for the day is "smart casual"... would it be okay to wear jeans? A pair that arn't ripped ect... lol I don't have trousers! But if it's not a good idea I can borrow something off my mum :S
What do you think?

ScratchesOnTheWall answered Saturday October 1 2005, 3:48 pm: To be honest, at places like this and at times when you want to make a good impression I would go with a skirt no matter how cold it is (just vary the length). As a rule they tend to be a little bit...not sexist exactly, but traditional in that "oh isn't it NICE when young ladies are feminine" way, so use it to it's advantage. It's easy to casual up a simple, one-colour skirt (black is a great choice) with a pastel shirt and not too dressy heels and a neat but casualy hair style.
Since you're not going to really know us how smart smart means, i would take two options of small accessories with you. With the simple outfit mentioned aboe, you can dress it up with a simple neck-scarf of pearls if you ahve them, or down with some kind of beaded necklace and bracelet and the same rules can apply to any hair ornament you wear.
Girlwithamansname answered Thursday August 18 2005, 11:39 am: It's important that you feel comfortable in what you are wearing so I wouldn't advise borrowing clothes from anyone.
More important than what you wear is how you wear it. It would be fine to wear a decent pair of jeans with a nice top and proper shoes (no trainers or flip flops). Just make sure that you look neat and that your make up is non-existent or natural looking.
Does the college have a website? Why not check it out and see what sort of clothes people are wearing in the photographs?
twistedteen25 answered Friday July 1 2005, 1:16 pm: I'm sure casual jeans are okay if their not ripped and you could get a nice shirt from rampage or charlotte rouse and some cute flats that would make a great smart casual outfit.
good luck for the induction! [ twistedteen25's advice column | Ask twistedteen25 A Question ]
AskAndrose answered Wednesday June 29 2005, 12:43 am: Well it says smart casual so as long as the jeans are not ripped I would go with them and a nice dress shirt and dress shoes, then you'll be fabulous. Just make sure that the colors dont clash. [ AskAndrose's advice column | Ask AskAndrose A Question ]
Courckypooh answered Tuesday June 28 2005, 8:03 pm: You should think.. what impression would you be making on these people?
If you have to wear jeans, pick ones that are nice and dark. Then wear nice heels (black) and do a cami under a blazer type of thing. Make it seem professional, like you want to really do business with them. Also toss in a pair of silver dangly earrings and make your hair look like you fixed it up for the occasion (maybe a butterfly clip or a bun)
Good luck getting into college!!

X0C0URT answered Tuesday June 28 2005, 7:57 pm: If jeans are the only thing you have, I think wearing them would be ok as long as you dress them up. Wear some cute black heels, a cardigan sweater and maybe some pearls or a brooch. Also make sure they are fitted jeans, not baggy at all. Good luck!
Sporkster answered Tuesday June 28 2005, 7:14 pm: Well, since it's a private college, I would stick with the rule "better safe than sorry." You can always dress a little bit more than you need too--there's nothing wrong with that. But if you came in jeans and a shirt and other people were dressed in slacks/jackets/ties/etc., wouldn't you feel a bit out of place? I'd go with a nice combination of black dress shoes or sandals with black slacks, a cute white or pastel colored polo top, and a nice 'do. Wear a little bit of pretty pastel eyeshadow and a light lip gloss, and you're ready to go! Hope you have fun at your induction.
mushoku answered Tuesday June 28 2005, 5:42 pm: If they're not faded, not baggy and all, and the top looks more formal (though fits with the jeans), it should be fine. You may want to ask your mum for advice.
sundevilette answered Tuesday June 28 2005, 5:12 pm: I would think jeans would be okay. However, if you do wear the jeans make sure you wear a pretty dressy top and nice shoes (heels or something) to balance it out. If you're still uncertain I would go with a semi-dressy knee length skirt with more of a casual top. Either way I'm sure you'll be fine. I promise no one will probably even remember what you had on once you start school. I hope this helps!
