My name's Amanda and I'm 15 years old and from New York. I play basketball, dance, and act. I also am learning to play the guitar which I think is really cool and it's really fun. One day I would also like to learn how to surf. On my free time I like to write songs. I also love to give advice and that's why I signed up here at advicenators.com. People always come up to me, especially my friends, asking for advice so I guess I'm pretty good at giving it. I even write for an advice column on my school's newspaper. I think people like getting advice for me because I'm real and I just tell it like it is.

is it possible to have a six pack at 13? i'm 4'11 and 85 pounds so i don't have too much fat to lose i dont think because im pretty skinny im not a bag of bones though. (link)

It is VERY possible. I had a six pack when I was 13(and I still do today) and even my little cousin who's 6 has a six pack because she's a very competitive gymnast. If you build yourself up, it's very possible. Try doing some exercises, I suggest crunches. If you need instructions on how to do a proper crunch, visit this site: http://www.ehow.com/how_3191_abdominal-crunch.html
I hope I helped!!

Does anyone have any tips on how to really project through an entire auditorium while you're singing? (link)
|
Take big breaths and use your diaphram muscles to project your voice. If you're singing, I'm assuming you've been properly trained on how to use your voice. If you haven't been properly trained then I suggest doing some breathing exercises. A good exercise that I always do is I place my hands on my waist, fingers pointing towards my toes, I breath in and fill up my entire lungs with air and then breath out slowly counting to five. Do this about 10 to 20 times and then work your way up to more. A good warmup is key. Also, just feel the song you're singing. I find when I'm into the music, I do better. Hope I helped!

alright, i'm hoping to start tennis this fall (its my first of high school). the only problem is that i know i'm going to have a physical to play on the team. well this is super babyish, but i am scared to DEATH of shots. so i was wondering what do they do during a physical? i know they weigh you and measure your height but is that all? i'm almost positive i'm going to need a tetnis shot :( , but do they have to prick my finger or anything? and one more thing, is there any way to get around getting the shot?
thank you so much!

Hey Lana,
K...I also play sports so I know what you're going through because I'm scared to death of shots. I absolutely HATE them. Any kind of needle freaks me out. Usually when they give you sports physicals they don't give you shots unless your immunization records aren't up to date. For my sports physical they did the usual weight and height thing and they also tested my reflexes and all that jazz. They took my blood-pressure, listened to my heart, tested my hearing and sight, and they also made sure that I was physically fit for the sport so they made me do some quick little exercises and then they checked my heart rate. It wasn't that bad at all. Your doctor might also require you to pee in a cup which is never fun, but you've got to do what you've got to do, hah. And depending on your school they might want your doctor to check your blood. If they do need to check your blood it's not that bad. As I've said I HATE needles but the blood thing wasn't that bad at all. It was a TINY prick on my arm and it was over with in a matter of a few seconds. If you're still feeling uncomfortable about the sports physical and your school offers physicals there, I'd go to one there. The physicals held at school are usually less complex. Usually you just go down to the nurses office and get checked out by a doctor there, no shots or needles required. I hope I helped and good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine!!

I don't wanna sound cocky by this, but I wanna make the big time. And I know I have the voice for it too. My friends, family, everyone tells me that I have a fabulous voice and need to be revealed to the public. I've been doing everything musical for my school, community, and town. For example, talent shows, school plays/musicals, taking vocal lessons, in region chorus. But my question is, how can I, a fourteen-year-old from NJ, make it in the music bizz? please help me... i'll rate fast..thanks

Hey Laur,
I have friends in the entertainment buisness and I'm also trying to breakout myself. The best thing I think for you, since you're still very young, is just keep perfecting your singing and keep putting yourself out there. Many kids think that because they weren't child stars they can't make something out of themseleves but that's soo not true. Don't rush your career. Just keep putting yourself out there at whatever chance you get. If some owners of a store ask you to sing at their grand-opening, do it! If you get asked to sing the national anthem at a local baseball game, do it!! You should also ask your vocal coach about making a demo. I'm sure he or she will know some people to contact who can help produce it. A demo is basically a collection of songs on a CD that showcases your voice which you send out to different record companies and such. I could rant and rave for hours about how to get yourself out there but I won't. Instead I have an excellent site that many people have found useful. Go to www.vocalist.org.uk. They have a lot of amazing tips that really help!! I hope I helped and as I've said before GET YOURSELF OUT THERE!!! I can't stress how exposure is sooo important. I hope one day you'll get your big break and I'll keep my eye out for ya!

For homecomming I want to be able to actually dance fast. I dance in my room all the time by myself and I think I'm fine...but then I look at other people dancing and I feel dumb! None of my friends can dance either, so do you have any tips or anything??

Hey Zero,
Firstly, you shouldn't really worry about what people think of you. Most people look foolish on the dance floor anyway so it's really no sweat. Just have fun and don't pay attention to the people surrounding you. If you feel THAT self-concious about the way you dance, maybe you should try some dance classes. I suggest maybe taking a hip hop class because you'll learn some cool moves that way. Or if you're a fast learner maybe sign up for a breakdancing class. You'll usually be able to find dance schools/classes around town, depending on where you live. Or you might even be able to find one at your local YMCA or gym. If you're too shy of a person to take dance classes or there's not enough time to learn, perhaps you should take out some videos from the library or download some videos off the internet that teach you some moves. I hope I helped and honestly you shouldn't worry about such a thing. It's not a huge deal and most people at dances are not even paying attention to you, they're usually chatting it up with their friends. So just go to the dance and have fun!! I hope I helped!
