about

Hi, I'm Katie ^-^

I really love giving advice, even if I'm not very good at it sometimes.. I still try!

Having experienced severe depression when I was younger, my best category would have to be mental health. I also do a lot of research on mental health, because honestly, it just really interests me. I've been thinking about becoming a social worker someday, to help others like me :) Giving advice here will probably be a good start for me ^-^

Well, I guess that's it. Have a nice day! :)

advice

I struggle with getting something for my Dad for Christmas every year he always says the same thing i dont want pr need anything . Why do men have to be so hard to buy for? I dont want to get him candy for Christmads because i did that for Father's day for the past 2 years. I also gave him mixed nuts for Father's day . I want to do something really special for him this year. I know he likes to play Kill Shot Bravo on his phone so i was thinking about getting him a google play card for his game. He is also a movie buff. I dont know if gift cards seem lazy or not.

Instead of normal candy you could make candy bars yourself. Search google for a recipe, make your own wrappers, that makes it a lot more special. My family's favorite is homemade salted nut rolls. If that doesn't seem like enough, you can add a gift card too. Don't stress over the gift too much, most parents are happy with anything they get from their kids. Have a merry Christmas :-)

Hello there! :)

A couple months ago I was microwaving a meal for lunch, and I felt a strong, heart-warming presence from behind. Taking a long glance behind me, I saw an angel with the brightest glow. She had infinite strands of long blonde hair, slight peach color of skin, a sky blue robe-like dress and massive wings of a silverish-white shade. From the few short seconds I experienced of her, she was oh-so pretty. But more like indescribably beautiful! ^.^

Now this is for the spiritual people on this advice site. I haven't been able to see her again since, but I am still in awe of her. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her since. Truthfully, I believe she's my guardian angel. I would TRULY appreciate any advice on how I can communicate with her and see her more often. As detailed as possible would be very, very helpful.

I feel like she could help me with my life issues, because I'm struggling so much with my life for years. Nothing I have attempted has helped me in any way. I feel if I had communication and more guidance through life from her, then I'd be so much happier. :)

Thank you for your time.

I haven't personally had any experiences with angels/spirits, but I've heard that writing can help you communicate with them. You're supposed to take a piece of paper and just write down whatever is on your mind at the moment (don't think about it too much, don't do any editing, just write). Eventually you may notice that the words don't really sound like your own, and that would be your 'guardian angel' talking to you. Even if you don't end up communicating with any 'higher beings', the writing exercise can be helpful for solving random problems in life and relieving stress.

Speaking of relieving stress, meditation would be a good way to increase your chances of seeing that 'angel' again. If you're not already into meditation, it may take a while to get used to, but really you just have to sit still in a comfortable place for 5-15 minutes. There's still no guarantee that you'll be able to communicate with any angels by doing this, but it's a nice habit to have.

Lastly, having a healthy diet can help you to be more spiritual, and also to be happier in general. Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, nuts, lean proteins, and whole grains, avoid highly processed and fast foods. Depending on your situation, this might not be easy, but you don't need to do anything drastic. Exercising at least 30 minutes 5-7 days/week will also help. Having a healthy lifestyle will make meditation easier as well, so while you're meditating you might be able to meet your guardian angel. "Binaural beats" can help with meditation too, just search it on YouTube and listen while meditating.

Hope this helps somehow, good luck!

I'm writing a book. I'm not going to get too into the plot because I don't want anyone to steal my idea but it's just starting, and I'm on page 49 but I feel like it needs to be longer. It was on page 36 when I started, then I went back and added detail, minor characters, character relations and I got it here. I also added some more action scenes. It takes place in Europe (and it has to, due to the plot) and the characters have to travel around Europe. I thought traveling across a continent would make it a long book, but I didn't realize you could get around Europe that fast! I'm an American so I have to do a lot of googling, and you could get across countries within two hours it takes me 5 just to drive to New Jersey! How do I make the book longer?

Depending on how well it fits with the overall plot of the story, you could throw in a few little side plots. Maybe a relationship between some secondary characters, or some secret internal conflict a main character has. You don't want to just make it mindless filler, but I personally find that kind of stuff interesting. It could give the reader a break from all the action going on. It's even better if the side plots tie into the main one somehow, so the reader won't feel like you've wasted their time.

Another thing I would suggest is to have a friend read the story, and ask them to write down any questions they have, or things they're confused about. You may have already done something like this, but taking a few paragraphs to explain unfamiliar concepts/ideas could add some extra pages.

Lastly, try to add more detail to existing scenes, and 'show, not tell' (don't know about everyone else, but that was a big thing at my school). Rather than rushing through action scenes and having one thing happen right after another, take the time to describe everything the happens. Readers LOVE imagery. You want them to be able to "see" what's happening in the story. Just be sure not to overdo it. It's not good to have a bunch of information dumps everywhere either. For example, if you have a character carrying a bottle of soda, you could casually mention how the soda is moving around inside the bottle as the character is moving. Little details like that make the setting seem more "real" to the reader, if you know what I mean.

Good luck with your book! I hope this helps somehow :-)

ive been pretty depressed for a while... i got my first bf in feb. 2014 and we broke up last week. also my frinds started fighting and hating eachother. i lost my only 5 frinds that i had made since 1rst grade. i started getting bad grades on my report cards and im getting made fun of for it. im just 10 years old but i cut myself and hav suicidal thoughts... please give me advice.

Don't worry. Things will get better. This happened to me too around three years ago when I was 10..(except I didn't have a bf) Please don't hurt yourself. It'll leave scars

hi I am in so much pain..i love my boyfriend very much.i cant live without him..but my parents are not agree to marry me with him..today I I wanted to commit suicide but when I see this site..i just give up my decision of suicide..if I commit suicide my bf will also commit it..what can I do

Don't commit suicide. Even if your boyfriend does it too, what will that prove? No matter how much you hate your parents right now, I know they still love you. Maybe you'll be able to convince them that you should marry your boyfriend. Just don't commit suicide. I might not be too much help, but just think about it. Your family loves you.

hey guys! im a 19 year old girl & i ended up hurting my leg by running 7 months ago and just got referred to do physical therapy. i used to work out and run everyday! since my leg started hurting ive been off for 7 months now, all ive been doing is binging & when i say i binge eat i mean it. its so insane i eat more than anyone i know. ive gained about 30 pounds in 7 months because of it. i used to weigh 128 and now i weigh way more. i literally feel it when i get up and walk or anything. its horrible. none of my clothes fit me anymore!! i hate it and it makes me so depressed. my body gets me depressed as well as the way ive been eating. i know i have to stop but its hard. ive been trying to eat healthier. i went out to eat for lunch & dinner everyday for the longest time. im now trying to stop that & trying to get a healthier life style like i used to have. i want to be healthier so that when i start to run again (when physical therapy is over & im allowed to get back into running fully) im not completely out of shape.

any advice or motivation??? i really need some! thanks:)

Well, I might not be too much help, but here's my advice:
1.Don't buy as much food - I feel like when I have more food available, I eat more. I'm not saying to starve yourself, you definitely shouldn't do that, but only buy what you need. Example: Buy enough for about a week's worth of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plan out what you'll eat each day so you won't end up running out because you ate more than you planned.
2. Don't go to fast food places - This is pretty self-explanatory, fast food has more calories, grease, and is overall just unhealthy. You can still go sometimes, just try to keep it under once a week (This really applies to everyone)
3. Stay away from sweets and snack foods - these can be addicting. One of my teachers at school once told me that Cheetos were made to not be filling just so people would eat more of them, and have to buy more all the time.
4. Eat fruits and vegetables - Some of my favorites are raspberries, strawberries, apples, broccoli, carrots, and spinach.
5. You could try weight loss programs - I can't really give you much advice on what works/doesn't work, since I've never tried any, but maybe one will work for you?
6. Don't starve yourself - just don't, really. There are better ways.
7. Never lose hope - just because one thing doesn't work for you doesn't mean nothing will. Try something else! And always remember this: The happier you are, the healthier you are. So be happy :) I think that just might be the best motivation you can have.

I hope I helped you out (:

Right now I have this one girl who I used to be close with, she always argues with me I literally can't do anything, I'm always the one trying to fix it and apologize and be friends but she never notices that! She think that she's always the one apologizing:( I admit I'm rude to her a lot but she never notices that I'm trying. I don't want to be friends with her but I don't want her to be my enemy because since we were close I've introduced her to all my friends and she just knows them all now she's also trying to be friends with the people I'm friends with who are from different school's I'm scared that she's going to turn everyone against me or that she'll steal all my friends. She already calls my 2 closest friends her best friends and always argues with me about who's closer to each of them? We just had a fight because she sent me a Dm on Instagram about her wanting to be a model, I shared my opinion on modelling and how I would rather be chosen for my brains over my beauty and some other girl that I know said the exact same thing but she only got mad at me and not her at all? I really need advice this infuriates me so much

Well, first of all, you really shouldn't be friends with this girl. Find new friends. Just make sure you don't totally dis your old friend, that might make her angry, and she might turn everyone against you, like you said. Here are some steps you could take so you can stop the drama between you and her without being left friendless:
-Make a new friend. You could find someone in your class at school, on your sports team, in your neighborhood, etc. Someone who you have a lot in common with would probably be an easy friend.
-If your old friend tries to start a fight, ignore her. It might be hard to stay quiet, although I'd like to think that most people would rather be friends with you rather than her for being mature.
-Don't keep trying to make up with this other girl. She can just keep believing you're the mean one if she wants to, just don't let it bother you.
-Don't try to turn everyone against her, even if she does this, try not to counteract her, just let it go.

Well, I hope I helped you out. Just remember: Don't start the fight, and don't feed the fire. If you don't let her bother you, you'll eventually be able to just forget about the whole thing. You might even make a new friend, hopefully a better one.

Good luck

Hello advicenators,

I am going to be buying a "new used" car pretty soon. I got a new job recently and I will be able to afford the payments. Im looking to spend somewhere in the $18-25,000 range. I don't want to buy something I'll regret with that amount of money. I have never bought from a dealership before.

What are some tips? What are some things I should look out for (Any salesmen tricks I should be wary of, or extra things that I shouldn't be paying for?) I'm a girl in my 20s that knows pretty much nothing about cars (other than how to fill up oil and change a tire-the basics) and I totally expect to be taken advantage of when it comes to cars. I'm not stupid but there's a lot of car stuff I don't know.

So anything helps, really. I'm going to do some test drives this weekend. I've researched and decided on a couple of different makes and models based on extensive internet searches and reviews. I would like to be prepared before I go.

Thank you!

Well, I personally don't know too much about cars, but I do know pretty much every business trick. Here are a few:

1. When they say you can save 'up to 50%' on your car, notice the words 'up to'. Saving 50% does not apply to every car they are selling, only a few of them.

2. If they offer you extra features (Special cup holders, weather mats, built-in G.P.S technology, or other various junk you can go without), chances are you can find almost an exact replica of it at Target or Walmart for half the price they're asking for. Example: They offer you weather mats for $40 (I don't know how much they cost really....), I can find the same thing at Target for $20.

3. High price does not mean high quality (general business strategy). Example: The cake my mom made for my birthday tasted a lot better than the cake I bought for my daughter at the bakery (Has nothing to do with cars, but it's the truth.)

4. It might actually be very helpful to go with someone (Example: Your dad, brother, boyfriend, another guy you know), preferably a man, because many car dealerships assume that men will be able to see through them when they lie to you, so they won't do it in the first place. It doesn't even have to be someone who knows anything about cars, just someone that looks like they might. Once I saw a story on 20/20 about how car dealerships take advantage of women by scaring them into thinking it's illegal to drive without a certain car part or whatever. In other words: Bring a male friend and most likely they won't even try to go this route.

5. Just a tip for what kind of car you buy: If you are planning on having a family, buy a larger car (I don't really know what to call it, just one of the tall cars, not the short ones.). If you are using it for commuting to work, this isn't necessary, but it is helpful if you don't want to hit your head like I do sometimes.

Anyway, I hope that makes sense to you. Good luck with your new car!

"Mental Health" probably isnt the right category. My subject pretty much sums it up. Sometimes, right when Im on the edge between sleep and consciousness, right smack between two different places, I swear I can hear someone say my name just faintly, but because of the weird state Im in, it really catches my attention. I dont know where it comes from. Its like it comes from the sleep and sounds in the sleep and in the wake, like it echos or something, its hard to explain, but you probably know what Im getting at. Im just really curious about it. I want to know what it is, why, and why I hear it and only when Im in that state. Also, because it's so faint and brief, I can't distinguish characteristics such as sex or whether I know the voice or not. If you have any ideas or actually know something or have had a similar experience, pleas leave a response, and thanks very much in advance! :)

You know... the same thing actually happens to me (or similar anyway). For me, it's usually somebody I know. I have been 'hearing' my best friend say some crazy stuff for a while now... It's strange. I can literally hear her voice, although I know it's just my imagination. Sometimes other people talk to me too. Usually they just say 'hi' or something. I find it almost comforting. As long as this voice isn't scaring you or anything, it's just fine. I'm perfectly fine, so you probably don't need to worry about it.

would any body care if i ended my life? my mom dont want me nether does my grandma. my dad lafted us when i was 3 now i am 17 about to be 18 and am getting married nexted yr.

Well, since you said you are getting married next year, whoever you're going to marry would probably care. Your mom and your grandma would be devastated without you too. Suicidal thoughts/actions are a part of life, and usually will go away eventually. You should probably talk to a therapist about this, or a person you can trust. If you die, the only thing you'll ever wish for is to be alive again, because the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Good luck

I am writing a story about a *very cute* little girl. This other girl, Ovi (aw-vee)is trying to kill her, because a demon (Need a name for him/her too) promises her eternal life, and if the little girl lives, Ovi dies. Well, it's a little crazy, but you get the picture. Anyway, I need a name for the little girl (Like a kind of normal name, not a crazy name like Ovi), and a name for the demon (I'm thinking it should be a boy, as all of my characters are always girls :p). Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Wow.. That's a very interesting story. As for names, here are some I've thought up.

Girl:
~Alyssa
~Ariana
~Emily (Emma/Emily is like one of the most common names ever)
~Zoe (This is also a common girls' name)
~Rose
~Phoebe
~Riley
~Ivy (This is an uncommon name, but a good one)
Demon:
~Marlo
~Derik
~Jeremiah
~Jasper
~Eden
~Alphonse (I dunno about you, but I love this name)

Good luck with your story :)

I have been depressed and have had sucidal thoughts and have self harmed for a while now. I really feel like I need to tell one of my friend but I don't know how please help!

This has happened to me before, so I know how you feel. I was eventually able to get over it on my own (Without telling anyone), but the feeling never really went away. I don't recommend just letting it go away, as it may come back later on in life. One thing you could do is go to your best friend (The one you can trust, that understands you and won't call you a crazy lunatic or something.), and say to them, "{Friend's name}, I need to talk to you about something...". Go to a private location and tell them how you're feeling. If they're a good friend, they'll care and want to help. Just talking to someone might make the pain go away. You could also tell your parents, siblings (This one is a maybe, it depends on what kind of siblings you have, if any), psychiatrist, or school counselor about your problems, whatever they may be. They're always there to help! No matter how unloved and unwanted you feel, there will always be someone in the world that needs you, even if it doesn't always feel that way. Best of luck. :)

18/f Now this may seem weird to most people but I don't like sunny weather at all. The thing is that whenever the sun is out I get really depressed and sad. At the beginning of spring I sometimes start crying for no reason, because I feel so uncomfortable. Then after a while I get used to the sun but I still don't like it.
I suppose I'm not the only one who dislikes sunny weather but why do I get so extremely depressed?
I just can't stand feeling so sad :( The sun is shining again today and I'm sitting here nearly crying .. what is wrong with me? And please don't make fun of me ._.

Maybe the sun is too bright for you? I always get migraines when the sun is out because it's so bright. It could also just be an irrational thing, that you're 'scared' of sunshine. You may just get over it eventually, but if you don't, try talking to a friend, family member, doctor, or other trusted person about it. Maybe they could help you.Good luck (:

I know this is strange, even downright crazy, but I want to know how people feel about having twins intentionally, life with fertility drugs and artificial insemination.

The thing is that I’m a second born and long story short, I haven’t been feeling very warm towards the position of the first born lately. There are problems I face as a second born and I know first borns face problems as well. My sister gets treated like a queen while I get treated like a nothing. The only people who don't make me feel less important than her are my mom, granddad, and uncle, but they can really get peed on by people for not catering to my sister.

My sister is terribly overly sensitive and her feelings are always more important than mine. So are her wants and needs. I've always gotten shafted on things because SHE had to get her way, even on my birthday.

I really can’t get over my resentment of the first born position. I'm tired of people thinking that I'm not as important or special as my sister just because she's the first born and I'm the second. I DO NOT want people to think that I don't value my younger kids as much as my first born. I also don't want my first born to be victimized by me subconsciously or anything because of how I feel about that position. Children are simply far too valuable for be treated in either of those manners.

I feel so screwed up and I know I need counseling which I will look into, but I'm still looking for good, caring advice now. The only people I've asked about this either couldn't care less and tell me to quit whining about my life, or they don't understand the question and laugh at me for, "asking how to have twins intentionally" as they think I'm doing. This reaction makes me feel bad and wish I hadn't gone to those people for advice, so I'm counting on the people here for real help.

There is a way to prevent the first born and second born problems. I’ve been thinking lately about arranging go have twins, but I have concerns about twins as well. I’ll list the pros and cons I’ve come up with below. Also just so you know, I know I'm over thinking this. I have a tendency to do that, but I still feel that this is a problem.

Pro
-It will prevent my second born from being treated like the a younger, less important version of my first born.
-No one will think that my first born is more important to me than the other kid(s).
-If their is any favoritism, it won’t be based on birth order.
-My kids will always have a friend their own age around.
-I won’t hurt my first born by favoring my second born.

Con
-They might be treated like a unit.
-They won’t have their own birthday.
-They won’t have their own high school graduation, college graduation, ect.
-They’ll go off to college at the same time, which will be twice as hard as when one goes off to college.

Well, I understand your problem (I was the second child in my family), but having twins may not be the best choice. Having one child is hard enough, but having twins is like 'double trouble'. I think it would be better to just have one child, then maybe another a year or two later. You just have to make sure you're giving both kids equal attention so neither of them feel like you favor the other child. All I'm really saying is that twins are a lot of work. They also may not feel very special if they have a twin (Especially an identical twin), because they'll basically have a clone. If you just have one child, they can still have someone their age to play with if you have another child soon after. I just think that would be easier for you as a parent. Good luck!

I am in high school and we are doing a swim unit. Boys and girls are both in the class. I am a very anxious and nervous person but I find myself not caring at all about being in a swimsuit in front of the class especially girls and yet I have some stretch marks? Why is this? How can this happen when I am usually anxious? I am a 15 year old boy by the way

It's actually kind of a good thing that you're not worried. If you're not worried, then you can just be happy, normal, and focus on more important things, like homework, studying, sports, or other activities.Have a nice day!

I have recently read the hunger games and found them quite gripping and they were so...... constantly suspending. I would like to know if anyone has read any other books similar? I dont like horrors or scary books though!!!!!

Well, a few years ago my class read this book at school called "the unwanted", or something like that. It was a little frightening and slightly strange, but if our teacher was allowed to read it to us, then it shouldn't be too scary. It said on the cover that it's like "the hunger games meets harry potter", so if you're interested I thought it was a pretty good book, so you should check it out!
Hope I helped!

Under $1,000

My favorites are Dell or windows. You can find lots of great options on amazon. I like windows because it's affordable and reliable. Most of their laptops are about $300-$700, with free shipping. You can also find some good deals at Best Buy, especially with the holiday season, prices will go down, so you'll probably have a pretty good selection to choose from. Good luck! :)

I'm 15 and I love animals my mom said I can have 1 animal of my choice. I've picked three animals and have revised a lot about them I can pick 1 corn snake 2 guinea pig or 3 kitten I know all the information about each animal and how to care for them which One should I choose .. And I have taken into consideration the cost of keeping each animal

I think you should get a kitten. They're cute, playful, funny, and they can stay home by themselves for up to about five days! I have two kittens, and I love them so much! They are pretty expensive, but they can live for fifteen to twenty years, which is a lot longer than a guinea pig or snake would probably live. Plus, they're more interactive, unlike snakes and guinea pigs that have to stay in little cages. So, I think you should get a kitten, but it's really your choice. Good luck with your new pet! :)
