Q: Do sororities/fraternities allow their members to quit? I mean, if the resident no longer wants to be affiliated with them, would they allow that resident to quit? And what happens next when the resident has already expressed his/her intentions? Is quitting really harder than joining?

Being a sorority member, I have an idea of what happens. Quitting isn't harder than joining. I lose all respect for people who quit. Because by quitting, they turn their back on the creed, the bond, everything... it's just not right.
But what they do is their decision. By quitting, they obviously don't hold what they have to any value.
I can't completely tell you what happens, but they have to return all their stuff.

Hey, how are you?
Well, I have a bias myself: I'm in a sorority! And let me just say that it's the best thing I ever did in my life.
In order to get in one, well, you go through either sorority recruitment or you attend an open recruitment party. It's mainly a mutual selection process, so these events are just a way for you to see where you fit.
I live in a sorority house, but you don't have to live in the house if you don't want to. I do because it's fun and I got to know so many girls!
Sororities vary by size, my sorority is about 65 girls, but I go to a Liberal Arts college where going greek isn't a big priority. I mean, it's big, but people don't go to the school to party and go greek.
Where I'm at, you find out about sororities through a brochure that has all the basic facts about them. Also, during Fall Recruitment, the recruitment counselor (a disaffiliated member of one of the sororities) is there to help you with any questions you may have concerning recruitment.
We do all kinds of things that are socially and philanthropically related. We have mixers, formals, and sisterhood activities... and then we hold Philanthropy events to raise money for our cause. .
I hope what we do isn't a bad thing!
We're friends with all the Fraternities on campus, some girls do date Fraternity members (my boyfriend is a Sigma Chi) but we don't whore out and hit up every house on campus lol!
Sorority members usually wear jerseys or shirts with their letters on them. During recruitment, we have to wear buttons with our letters on them everywhere-- even when we went to take a shower.
That's about it... if you want to know anything else, you can always AIM me at SmoothKalyn414.

Q: I have two questions. I'm just learning guitar on my own.
On most sites I find:
E|--------------------------
B|--------------------------
G|--------------------------
D|--------------------------
A|-7--7--/10--7--5--3--2----
E|--------------------------
for the beginning but the 10 doesn't sound right at all!
The rest is fine but the 10?
Can someone tell me whether it's right or wrong?
and for the second part..
I don't know how to use my fingers. Like They don't reach and so on..
Like for this song:
E|--------------------------
B|--------------------------
G|--8-----------------------
D|--2-----------------------
A|--6-----------------------
E|--6-----------------------
how can I do that?!?!
Thanks.

Kudos for learning guitar on your own! Even though I'm more of a bass player, I used to play guitar back in the late 90s early 00s.
I'm sure you already know that the lines and numbers on them is known as tab.
On the first tab, you slide from the 7th fret to the 10th fret. The slash is another way to distinguish a slide. Try it, I'm sure it will sound better.
If your fingers get sore, squeeze an eraser to toughen them up to form calluses.
I don't have my guitar with me for the second one, but by looking at it, it looks like a B chord, which is one of the hardest chords for me. (And one of the reasons why I switched to bass.)
Hope this helps! And happy learning!

Q: My boyfriend and I are thinking about having sex. But before I act on this thought, I want to hear some personal experiences. Have you ever had sex? if the answer is no, then why haven't you? Is it because of religion, personal beliefs, morals, etc? But if you have, then What happened? Why did you decide to participate in sex? Do you regret it? I'm asking these questions because I want to know what everyday people think about this, because once its gone i can never get it back.

It's great that you're thinking long and hard about this. I haven't had sex because of religous beliefs and morals. I'm very conservative about sexuality and I almost wrote a paper about perversions in classic literature because I hated the sexual references lol. (As I always say, if I want to read about sex, I can easily pick up the latest Cosmo.)
Also, I've had many a friend call me up to tell me that they're pregnant or that they got a girl pregnant. It's just not a position I would want to be in. And STDs aren't something to play around with either. If you do decide to have sex, use protection, because it helps you big in the long run.
Whatever you decide, just know that this decision will be with you. If you want to lose your virginity to your boyfriend, that's great! And also, talk to him about your reservations and how you're feeling. Sex is a mutual thing, and both parties need to be aware of what the other is feeling.
Hope this helps!

Q: wat does it mean when your giving sumbody head
or giving sumbody a blow job
like how do the do it
|
|
|
|
|
|

giving someone head/blowjobs is just a dirty way of describing the act of a man revealing his penis and a girl/guy proceeding to suck on it.
I'm not going to go into the details, but it isn't anymore than what I explained.

Q: I am a Christian but my entire group of friends is not. I want to tell them about Jesus or my faith, but I constantly find myself afraid of their disapproval, but I need to because it won't be long before I become tempted to go against my beliefs. How do I make my stand?
|

This is something I came across when I was about 11 or 12. In middle school, we had this club that I was active in called the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A lot of my friends were a part of it, but some weren't. When I would ask my friends why they didn't go to the meetings, they said that they didn't believe in God or that they had another religion.
Everyone has and is entitled to their own religious beliefs and some will compliment/clash your own.
If you are afraid of being shot down, why not start by asking your friends to church with you one at a time. Do it nonchalantly, so they won't feel uncomfortable or disrespected. And if they say no, don't worry! Sometimes it takes a while for people to open up to new things.
Telling them about your faith and welcoming them into the fellowship that is Christianity takes a lot of emotional and physical work.
If all else fails, let them borrow a Christian Rock CD and hear the music for what it is.
hope this helps!

Q: So...my teacher keeps pointing me out in the midst of class in an attempt to lower my spirits. She's claiming I'm out of control, but I'm just a really cheerful person and like to be positive. She's constantly belittling me and it's rather tiring. She is in control of my grades, so how should I handle this?
I'm not going to tone down who I am. It's not about my pride. I just feel that she needs to be accepting because she's turning this all into a personal issue. Thanks to those who help!

I have DEFINITELY had some insane teachers in many years of school. (I'm old lol)
And if there's one thing I learned, is that teachers thrive on being IN control of their classrooms. It's like they are on stage or something... and yall are the helpless audience, so to speak. This teacher, is nothing but a bad comedian who picks on the audience for their own amusement.
I had a professor in college who basically targeted me for everything and even took away my cell phone when it rang. It was crazy! I eventually warmed up to her and I understood that she just wanted to act like an 8 year old and be immature. Some teachers, unfortunately, don't mature. Same goes for your teacher.
I think the best bet would be to kinda keep a low profile for a couple of days... not saying to tone down, just kinda keep low out of defiance... because she is EXPECTING you to be your sunny self. She won't know what to think. And, if all goes to plan, she will move on to another target. But if not, there's always a plan B. Don't say anything to her if she calls you out. Just give her an eat shit smile and walk away. She will move on to another target and will get tired of your strong self-control.
And, plan C would be to tell your parents or principal. But plan A and B should be annoying enough to snap her out of it. Hope this helps!

Q: 15/f
Has anyone ever taken a People to People trip? I got a thing in the mail from them, and I can go to Ireland, London, and Walsh for it. It would be for about 20 days over the summer [I'd be 16 by then]. Anyways, this trip is very expensive, so I wanna make sure it's worth it. I'm pretty shy, so I think this would be good for me.
Has anyone gone on this trip? What do you do? Is it worth it?
Anything you know about it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I LOVE People to People International. Please do it, it is probably the most life learning trips I could have ever taken. I am from Florida, so I was able to go to Orlando for my first trip. I stayed at Rollins College and I got to meet people from politics and journalism. I met a CNN news correspondent and she recommended me for an internship the following year in Georgia. My second trip I went to England and I got to shadow people from BBC and I also got to listen in on a meeting in Parliament.
I was 16 and 17 when I went and it was probably the most life changing thing I could ever do. I was raised in a small town and I had my little group of friends, but the trip really opened my eyes to other types of people and got me thinking about other situations around the world. I'm 20 now, and I still talk to the people that were in my group. And they are from all over the country with different backgrounds and different morals and ideals.
My mom gave me the choice of driving a new car or driving her old car, and since I liked my mom's old car, all of my car money went towards my trip. However, grocery stores are really cool about bagging for tips and also you can raise money by selling stuff.
It's worth it. Go. You meet tons of people, you learn about peace and kindness towards your fellow neighbor, and you gain skills that you can practice you for college. If you need anything, message me and let me know. I still have my packets and I can give you more details.

Q: At my school, (6th grade) there is this boy named Chase, and he's in all of my periods, except reading. Last year, at the elementey, there was an after school care, and we both went. He used to hang around me alot, and was my friend. Now, he hates me because I am too annoying, I sent him an email, appologizing 4 what I did, and telling him that I missed being his friend, and he said it could happen again, he's been thinking. But, I think I might like him more than a friend. I did last year, and him, and everyone knew it, then I told everyone I didnt, just to make him feel more comfertable to be around me. But, now, that he might just now, be geting over hating me, i dont know if I still like him, and if I should tell him or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please help me,

Ok, I know this is going to be hard, but keep a good distance from him.
He isn't really a friend at all if he just blows you off like that. But... even though I'm 20, I was a middle schooler once... I would make friends with certain guys because I thought they were hot, but then once I got to know them I was like, "What was I thinking?"
He is a pretty awful friend if he just discarded your apology like that... don't give him the time of day... make new friends that are JUST AS cute if not cuter and try to move on.
And again, it's going to be hard, but it is the healthiest to do... AND, if that doesn't work, there's always celebrities in magazines. Keanu Reeves was always a big favorite of mine (hey, I'm old lol)
I hope this helps!

Q: So this isn't a question about liking boys... I DON'T like anybody! I could think they're cute, but that's all. I'm 13/f and I'm not that comfortable thinking about being in a relationship. It makes me uncomfortable, and I can think "ewwwwwwwwwwwww" Some people like me, and it just makes things worse, because I do NOT like them, it's just, "eww".... I even feel weird about my dad or one of my boy teachers. I'm ok around people who I know probably don't like me, and if we're really good friends and stuff. I'm just not interested. One person who likes me, KNOWS that I don't like him, but he's obsessed or something, and it creeps me out. The other guy who likes me is my friend, which still makes me feel awkward. There was a rumor going around that he liked me, and it was annoying how people kept saying "guess what?! so and so likes you!" The same with the other guy! I could honestly care less about boys (no offense) and I love being single :] Boys are also rude, etc, etc, etc! (if you girls know what I mean) but girls can also too. Am I just not ready? I just wish NO ONE would like me! DDDD: D:<
(I'm still thinking, ewww, gross, bleh.....)

You're 13. That's a perfect age to be happy and single the way you are. Unfortunately, guys, as well as girls are going through changes that might increase their interest in you or your girlfriends... I know, it's like "EWWWW."
I know, I was just the way you were when I was your age. (I'm old now lol)
But there will be a time and place when your opinion does change about boys and when it does, you know you will be ready. However, for now, be happy being single and enjoy it, because boys don't get much better in college. They still have their gross habits and think it's funny.
(Well, except my boyfriend, but that's because he has manners.)

Q: This guy I really want to ask to homecoming just got a girlfriend. I go to an all girls school and he goes to an all boys school. His girlfriend doesn't go to my school though. I wanted to know if you think it would be ok if I still took him to my homecoming. Or would that be totally off limits.

Ok, so he's going to an all guys school... ask him to introduce you to some of his hot friends? It couldn't hurt... that's what I would have done if I was going to Homecoming...
And, since you don't like him in that way... hang out with him and his friends and see if there is a friend of his that you DO like.

Q: I am auditioning for a high school production of crazy for you. though i just bought the soundtrack, i am not familiar with it yet. auditions are soon. i need a monologue and a song for a 2 soprano. tips/advice/anything??!

Yeah, I always got nervous when it came time for auditions. What I did is I got the lyrics sheet and I read through it over and over and then I sang it at least twice each day before auditions. I'm not the world's greatest singer, but always save your voice for the audition. Sing in moderation. Talk in moderation. Gargle plenty of warm salt water, and get rest!!
Oh, and if you ever get a light headed feeling before performing, or ever feel like you're about to piss yourself (gross, I know, sorry :P) start planting your feet hard and firm into the ground. Start with your feet, and continue to make your body stiff with your legs, hands, arms, etc. You will not feel as weak and the nervous jitters will mostly be gone.
You will be fine! And good luck!!

Q: Alright, well usually I'll agree 'age is just a number' but this situation...
My friend is a 15 year old girl and she's dating a 12 year old boy. I mean, yeah age is just a number but this is weird. People usually say on here 'Remember someone who is older wants a different kind of relationship' and that's true. A 12 year old boy has just left his "Girls have cooties" stage for gods sake!
Well my question is, do you think it's right that they're dating? Or is just me thinking it's wrong?
Also should I just let her be happy, or should I say something? If so, how should I put it?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
hmmm interesting... that does seem kinda odd for a 12 year old boy and a 15 year old girl to date. She will be dropping him off at Middle School if they keep it up! lol
But all silliness aside, I think that it all has to do with the maturity level from both parties. But first of all, I just want to say that it is perfectly normal for you to have these feelings. Our culture and society has raised us to feel a little "weird" about older woman/younger man relationships, but perfectly fine with older man/younger woman relationships.
However, your friend and her... ahem... interest are still underage and might just be going out because they like how they look.
If it really REALLY bothers you, try to find a guy that fits the qualities of the 12 year old and ask how old he is. If he is 14-16, then introduce him to your friend. If he isn't, then keep looking lol. Perhaps she is interested in the 12 year old for the qualities he possesses and might not realize that there are plenty of guys her age to date.

I always go with the mood I'm in or I think of a word and just go with it... I kinda write in a stream of consciousness and whatever comes out comes out... I always play a bass line on my bass or a riff on my guitar or anything like that to get me started... also another way to get inspired is by just listening to music... hope this helps!

Q: i'm 16/f... this guy at school I've had my eye on for a while is in my gym class and the only thing I know is that he's good at any activity except in the social area. Don't get me wrong I mean he's really sweet, but whenever someone has a conversation with him it's so one-sided it's like the person is talking to themselves. Ok, how do I approach him without feeling like I'll say something stupid and actually get pass this wall of his?

He sounds a LOT like how my boyfriend used to be in High School. My boyfriend is the strong silent type... in fact, his fraternity nickname is "The Wall" because he doesn't say much to people he hardly knows.
Get this guy to know you. Talk to him, it doesn't have to be much, just a simple "hey, how are you" can do the trick. But keep it real... don't let it seem fake or intrusive. And be consistent with it, so he'll expect a pattern.
Then when he's warmed up to you... if he hasn't already... talk about other things, like school, etc. Once you're on a "friend" level with him, kick it up a notch... invite him to hang out or whatever.
It will take a while, but shy guys are definitely worth it. I've been with my boyfriend since 2003 and he is just AMAZING!! Just remember that he's probably just as nervous as you are. ;)
