Hi everyone. I'm 20 and my height is 5'7. I saw these beautiful platform pumps with 4" heels, but i'm hesitating to buy them because I think I might be a bit too tall with them. An extra 4" heel will make me stand at 5'11.. is that too tall? Also, i'm not at a perfect weight, I have like 10 pounds extra. Will standing that tall make me look skinnier too... or will I just look like a Miss Giant?? Please help.. thanks in advance. :-)) (link)

Models wear heels that make them well over 6 feet tall. That being said, if you are just walking around town I wouldn't wear high heels because you would look out of place. If you have an event to go to, and look very chic and polished, go for it.

Hi!
I'm 21 years old, in college. I'm looking for a good pair of shoes to buy that I can kinda wear for everyday outfits. it's getting colder so flip flops are out of the question, and I can only buy so many pairs of flats, plus those can get uncomfortable. I want something that is dressier than a tennis shoe, but nothing too fancy. Something that can be worn with jeans and shirt. What is fashionable right now? (link)

Riding boots are really great for fall. You can get the traditional leather riding boot, or get one that looks edgier.
http://www.zappos.com/type-z-sharris-brown
Or you can get the slouchy suede like boots, I have a pair of those and I wear them all the time in the fall. (I got mine at payless for pretty cheap! Or my friend got a pair of steve madden boots at a DSW kind of store, and only paid $15 because they were out of season!)
http://www.zappos.com/product/7862023/color/20
I have a pair of coach sneakers that are gold toned and are practical enough for every day but the gold makes them unique enough to spice up an outfit.
http://www.zappos.com/product/7830140/color/464
I see a lot of people with moccassins, which isn't the most stylish thing but people definitely make them work into a indie/casual but cute vibe. Also, you can get moccassins really cheap because most brands look almost identical; I've seen cute mocs at Walmart for under $20 and I've seen cute Ugg mocs at a much more expensive price.
Also, invest in some heel pads for your favorite flats. I've had blisters on my heels for a week because I didn't invest in some pads, and trust me I regret it.
Good luck,
-Abby

The dress from the above link is something a I want to wear to this theatre production. I have tanned skin and dark hair, so I thought the red would be great as it would bring out my features, and also I wanted to pair it up with my black heels and black belt. So the question is, I'm from a conservative family and the dress has a cut out at the back, is there a way I can hide it? Wear a jacket or something? Or wear a singlet underneath? any ideas?
And for my legs,I was thinking of wearing some sheer black tights. But not too see through.
I still want to look elegant and classy, as much as I can. :)
So what is everyone's advice on that? Any ideas/options etc. would be greatly appreciated. (link)
|
I suggest wearing a black blazer over top, and wearing sheer black tights with your black heels. That would look really polished and chic.
Or you can wear a black tank top underneath to hide the open back.
I'm not sure how tall you are, but the dress looks like its short on the model, so I would definitely wear the tights.
I don't love the way they have the belts in the picture, so don't wear one if it kind of pulls the dress down like that. You want the flouncy-ness of the top to remain with a belt. If you do wear a belt, I recommend a black or gold/silver one.
I think big, chandelier earrings would look great with this.
Good luck and have fun!

I was wanting to buy some a&f tops, and i bumped into this website.
It seems to good to be true, so i wsa wondering if anybody else had used it before?
The website was BRD GOODS. (link)

The website says replica all over it, meaning the items are fake. If you wan't fake merchandise, then go for it.

Hi!!! So at my school they have a dress code. I really hate it because it doesn't give you a lot of options. Here it is:
NO JEANS (I really hate that.)
No denim
Must wear collared shirts
Cannot be low cut
No jeggings or treggings or whatever they call them
No bright colors
Makeup must be minimal and not a distraction
No excessive jewelry
Skirts, skorts, and shorts must be exactly or below two inches above knee (I'm serious about this one. They will literally come after you with a ruler)
Any ideas for cute styles? Any popular clothing stores that sell school uniform styles? Thanks!
Oh, and if it helps, I'm in middle school (link)
|
Wow, what a strict dress code. With that I would almost rather having a set uniform so I wouldn't have to worry about putting outfits together.
First off, I would invest in khaki pants. You can get them at American Eagle or Aeropostle and you can get them pretty fitted, so you can show some shape.
For the warmer months, you can get some bermuda shorts (try Old Navy) or capris.
I don't know if you are into Polo shirts, but you can get them at any 'preppy' store like Abercrombie, American Eagle, Aero, or Ralph Lauren if you want some designer ones. You can get these in a variety of colors or just neutrals.
I have black denim pants, maybe you can get away with something like that.
I suggest trying to push your limits a little and wearing a skirt with non-transparent tights underneath. Or you can do dresses with tights. Try to find dresses that tie or can be belted at the waist, so you can show off your figure while covering up the rest of you. Sweater dresses are really cute for fall and winter.

For jewelry, I would get classic pieces like pearl/diamond studs (cheap at Claires) and you can mix and match bracelets like a few silver bangles with a pearl bracelet. A big, 'statement' watch can also add a sophisticated vibe while being practical, so no one can call you out on it!
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=layering+bracelets&um=1&hl=en&biw=1311&bih=506&tbm=isch&tbnid=WUtHIutI62IfQM:&imgrefurl=http://www.modlychic.com/2011/03/878layering-a-watch.html&docid=XyQ1fvWLPJyiTM&w=2160&h=2424&ei=i4A5TubLL8GSgQeQoJ3PBg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=130&page=2&tbnh=165&tbnw=147&start=18&ndsp=13&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:18&tx=43&ty=77
What can be really stylish and appropriate is a blazer. I got a really cute, fitted one at Kohls and I love to wear it out to give a polished vibe.
To show off some style and wear pieces that arent so conservative, you can layer them. Throw a lacy cami under a sweater so it peeks out, or put a cardigan that buttons up over a going out shirt.
Can you wear scarves? I know girls who wear a low cut top but layer a scarf on top to cover any cleavage.
You can probably find clothing you can work with at just about any store, it just depends how you wear it. Try your typical mall stores like the ones I mentioned above and Forever 21 or H&M, as well as department stores like Macy's.
Try going shopping with your friends and you can share ideas. Be creative!
Good luck,
-Abby

I'm 18 and going to a Foam party in a club after getting my results back with all my friends and I want to know what to wear?
I was thinking of wearing some black shorts and a tight top maybe but should I wear a bikini underneath or something and what kind of shoes?
I never been to a foam party but been out a few times, I'm pretty sure the short dresses don't apply for this one though lol btw It's legal to drink at 18 so I'm not breaking any laws. (link)
|
Wear what you would normally wear to a club, but don't wear anything that will get see-through when its wet.
Shorts are a better idea than a dress and a dark colored top would be best. You can wear a bathing suit underneath if you want, but thats not really necessary.
My cousin's phone got wet at a foam party and it was ruined, so be careful what you bring in with you.
Good luck,
-Abby

I was wondering if I bought the gel stuff the nail shops put on your nails (what they put on every 2 weeks) would make my nail polish stay on longer? (link)
|
Nail polish does last longer on the fake nails they put on you at the salon, but it is not easy to apply on yourself.
You would need to buy the acrylic powder, the liquid solvent, the brush, the oil they use on your cuticles, and you would need a drill system to shape it. If you are talking about gels, then you need a UV light source.
And you usually can't just paint over your nails, thats why they glue on a fake tip to start you off.
If you are talking about the 'gel' top coat they apply after your nails are done, this can be bought but again, you need a UV light to cure it.
Good luck,
-Abby

I'm getting married in 9 months time, the venue has cost more than we expected so we're having to cut costs elsewhere, which means I will be doing my own make up.
I'm 27 years old and I still have no idea about make up, I have very dry skin so I have to put mosturiser on my face, then foundation and it still looks flakey.
This is my main problem so if anyone can recomend any brilliant foundation fo that smooth airbrushed look? I've read about "Primer" too but I have no idea what that is, i'm never used it.
Next i'd like gorgeous eye make up, celebrities wear it a certain way which seems to change the shape of their eyes.
As you can tell i'm completely clueless and desperately need some fab advice.
Thank you (link)
|
First off, Congrats on the wedding!
I'm a huge make up fan, and when I get married I'll probably do my own make up because only you know what you want to look like on your special day.
If you aren't great at it, I suggest practicing a lot. Google make up looks and try them out. It might take many tries to get what you want.
Have you ever gotten your make up done at one of the counters in the mall? Ususally they do not charge for this, it's just assumed that you will buy one of the products they use on you. You can schedule a consultation and then make an appointment on your wedding day. You can buy perhaps the lip color and mascara they use, and get out of it only spending $40.
If you still want to do it on your own, then here are my tips.
Primer helps your make up stay on longer and go on smoother. I use it every day, and you will definitely want it for your wedding day.
For eye shadow, get Urban Decay's Primer Potion (around $18). It is the best out there.
For your face you can explore and try different things. I use Bare Minerals prime time, and I love it. You can find cheaper options, like from Rimmel, but you might not want to skimp on your wedding day. They have primers for dry skin, oily skin, etc. so look for your skin type.
For your foundation, I suggest a cream foundation. It's thick and covers a lot. I use Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse, which is a drug store brand.
There is a more high end foundation I also reccommend. Makeup Forever HD foundation. The HD products will help you look GREAT in pictures. I suggest the make up forever hd powder on top of everything to set your make up.

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P210400&categoryId=B70
You should also use bronzer, which you don't need to spend a lot of money on. Look for a matte (meaning no sparkles) bronzer. This will be natural and give you some color. Use a dark shade to contour. This means to give your face definition. Make a fishy face and apply the bronzer to the hollows beneah your cheeks.
Blush can also be purchased really cheaply. I suggest a cream blush, with a powder blush over top. The combo will create multi-dimensional color as well as hold it down longer.
Pat the cream blush on and very gently blend. If you swirl it on then it will create a 'hole' in your other make up. Go for a color that is close to your natural shade. Wedding make up should be very you, but just enhanced.
For the eyes, I suggest neutral but sparkly colors. You can do to any drug store and find colors that would suit you.
Make sure you put a high light (a very light, shimmery color) on your inner tear ducts and right under your eye brows. This makes you look more awake. Put the darkest color on the outer corner and blend into the crease.
I suggest using colors like warm browns, champagne colors, whites, taupes, maybe a little bit of a plum, or some golds. Keep it simple but radiant.
For eye liner that stays on, I suggest Mac Fluidline in Blacktrack. This is a gel liner that is water proof. Top this off with a black eye shadow to set it.
I strongly suggest wearing fake lashes. You can get a set that looks natural at the drugstore, walmart, sally beauty, or even the high end stores. They take some work to learn to apply, but once you get the hang of it it isn't bad. When you cry you won't have a ton of mascara on your face because you are wearing fake lashes.
Get a waterproof mascara to 'blend' your lashes in with the fake ones. Really test out your mascara, because I've had waterproof ones that are barely waterproof.
For your lips, you can use a lipstain if you want it to last all day. The drug store has lots of them, but I also like Tarte products which are very moisturizing.
I use urban decay Dew Me make up setting spray to set my make up. It's moisturizing, so this might help combat your dry skin through the day.
As for your dry skin, you might want to try a new moisturizer. Philosophy (sold at Sephora) has a raved about moisturizer called Hope in a Jar. I hear it works wonders. If you start this before you wedding, you might be able to eliminate the dry skin problem.
Did you know youtube has a beauty community. There are TONS of users who create make up videos and tutorials which really help me, and they have lots of wedding inspired videos. I think this could help you a lot!
I hope that could help. Good luck!

Whats the difference between leggings and jeggings?
Whats the difference between jeggings and skinny jeans?
They look the same to me (link)
|
It can be confusing, since they all have similar names!
Leggings are skin tight, usually cotton, 'pants'. They are more like thick stockings than pants. Most people wear long shirts or short dresses over leggings. Here is a picture of common leggings:
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://thegloss.com/files/2007/09/basic-legging.jpg&imgrefurl=http://thegloss.com/fashion/not-real-green-leggings-thats-cruel/&usg=__4AElmhjaBKDjrENQjgJEb8VV1oU=&h=450&w=300&sz=69&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=W5ICETIwh2Lt0M:&tbnh=174&tbnw=116&ei=3UESTvLgDcLngQfzxbD2Bw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dleggings%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D527%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=100&page=1&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=82&ty=91
Jeggings are a legging/jean hybrid. They come in different forms! You can get jeggings that are literally as skin tight and soft as leggings, but just have a fake jean print on them. Or they have jeggings that are simply very stretchy and soft skinny jeans. They feel almost exactly the same as normal skinny jeans, just a tad more comfortable.
Skinny jeans/jeggings can basically be the same thing. Typically skinny jeans will be made out of a thicker fabric and be less flexible.
Hope that helped!
Good luck,
-Abby

I have always ALWAYS wanted to be a model, and my boyfriend is hopefully going to be a professional footballer soon/or a rapper. That part isn't idle dreaming by the way, he has sorted out auditions and trials for actual teams and if he is successful I'd love to use it to get into modeling.
The problem is, I honestly don't feel photogenic, I feel like I need to learn how to look good in photo's and what kind of clothes suit me. I'm slim, and only a size 34B in boobs, but I have a nice tight tummy and an hour glass figure. I'm pure white and not very tan so usually pale with light blonde hair that is very fine and hazel eyes. If anyone could give me any advice on style or make up and how to look good in photos as I really have no clue! (link)
|
Modeling is very subjective; there isn't one definition of beauty or how to look like a model.
There are also different types of modeling.
There is print ad/catalouge modeling. If you have a pretty face but aren't exotic or unique looking, this is for you. They want women who look better than average but still relate-able to the women who will be looking at the ads and be inspired to buy the clothes.
If you are a good height (at the minimum 5'8) and slender, you have a better chance at modeling on the runway. They want girls who are tall, thin, and have unique looks. Victoria's Secret models are not the norm; they are 'sexy' models. They sell more sex appeal then couture, but many have had careers in both areas. For this you need to know how to walk on the runway and how to move your body, and have it look natural.
For editorial campaigns, that body movement is imperative. Practice poses in front of a mirror, and have someone take pictures of you so you can look at them and improve. It is also helpful to look at fashion magazines and practice their poses.
If you go on auditions or casting calls, don't over do it with the looks. They want to see you bare, because the designer is going to use you as a canvas. They will add their own make up and clothing. Leave your face natural (you can do foundation and concealer but not heavy, blush, and some mascara.) and if you have especially nice long hair, leave it down. You can have it natural, straight, or some light waves, but not crazy curly or anything wild. If your hair isn't anything special, pull it up in a high pony tail to show off your face.
They want to see your body, so wear something close fitting but not flashy or provocative. Jeans and a t-shirt (and heels) would work. They want to see you be yourself.
If you want to get this career started, I suggest paying a photographer (find a good one, not a portrait studio at the mall kind of photographer) and start your portfolio. You can send this to agencies, and hopefully you will get picked up. You can also attend casting calls. If you give it your all and work hard, you will be able to get somewhere.
I hope you and your boyfriend can follow your dreams.

ok im a 8th grader and going to graduate june 9 and i just want to know what dresses r appropriate for a catholic school.I go to a catholic school and im not aloud to wear a dress that shows alot of clevage. the trick is that im a really big girl and idk where to get a dress pleze respond fast and oh pleze say were to get them and what sizes they carry. I appreciate ur help alot and i just want to say that iv used thisn site alot and ask a ton of ?'s and i get really good responces.pleze answer in a nise and kind way. (link)

Torrid has dresses specifically for plus size young girls.
I thought this one was very appropiate for a graduation.
http://www.torrid.com/torrid/Clothing/Dresses/White-Eyelet-Party-Dress-564801.jsp
Deb carries many plus size dresses also.
http://www.debshops.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=4006223
If those don't work, try a department store like Macy's or JC Penneys.
If you are afraid a dress will show too much skin, get a light sweater/cardigan to go with it.
Good luck,

Are thongs uncomfortable? Do they make your butt feel like you've got a weggie? (link)
|
When I first started wearing thongs, it was the weirdest feeling in the world.
If your thong is too small or has the tendency to ride up, it will definitely give you a wedgie. If you get the proper size, eventually you will get used to it and forget you're even wearing one.
They are definitely a necessity when it comes to wearing tight clothing!
Good luck,
-Abby

I need a black blouse with some bright yellow on it that will look semi-formal. I wish to perform in the school talent show and am wearing a yellow skirt with black waistband and black design, and a pair of black leggings. Where can I buy a shirt to match that's around $30? I am open to suggestions and will be VERY happy if you include a link to the site I can buy it on. Thank You for your help!!!! (link)
|
Since your skirt sounds like it has some print and is bright on it's own, I don't think you want a shirt that is complicated or flashy. Let the skirt be the focal point and wear a simple shirt. I suggest a black shirt that has something special about it, like one shoulder or a rosette, or maybe ruffles.
http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=top%5Fdressy&product%5Fid=2058635195&Page=all&pgcount=25
Lace has been really big this year, so you could try something like this that will definitely spice up your outfit. Just wear a black tank underneath, and maybe ditch the leggings to your skirt, unless it is too short without them.
http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=top%5Fdressy&product%5Fid=2000001193&Page=all&pgcount=25
This top will add texture to your look without being too busy in combination with the skirt.
You could also do a simple black v-neck t shirt if all else fails.
Good luck,
-Abby

I have worn my hair down and in a middle part for many years, but recently started parting it on my right or wearing it a ponytail frequently.
However, now I want to change my hairstyle so its a part on my lift side, but I also want it to be sort of a middle part.
This is an image of exactly the kind of hairstyle I would like on Karen, but I have brown hair.
http://tinypic.com/r/2uep2xx/7
How can I get my hair like this (while not dying it blonde of course!), but how from the part to the way it is styled?
Thanks (link)
|
This style isn't hard to achieve, but you have to have her haircut.
She has a simple side part, and use a brush/comb to give the front piece a little volume so it isn't flat against your head.
She has some chin length pieces, as well as long layers. Maybe you can take that picture to your hair stylist.
Good luck,
-Abby

I usually wear flats quite a bit, but they seem to wear out so quickly! I wear them with bare feet, thin socks, and pantyhose, but it always seems that the insides get a lot of marks from my feet and look beat up. Does this happen to other girls and do you have any methods of making this not happen as much? They also make my feet really smelly depending on what I wear on my feet too lol (link)
|
Flats do wear out easier, because they are typically thinner and more cheaply made then say a sneaker. I find that you also put more pressure on them then you would another shoe, because sneakers have more padding.
Investing in a good brand might help you extend the life of your flats. Tory Burch is famous for her comfortable but stylish flats, but they are on the expensive side.
Rubber bottoms will typically hold up longer. Look at the material of the shoe. The thicker it is the longer it will last.
You can try putting in your own inserts (like Dr. Scholls) which will absorb some of the pressure and make your feet more comfortable!
You could try sprinkling some baby powder in there to absorb some of the sweat to kind of kill the smell.
Good luck,
-Abby

I am 13(m)and my hair is really coarse/thick and curly. Right now I straighten it every morning and its just getting to be too much work. I have no idea what do with it, any suggestions? (link)
|
As a girl who spends too much time on her hair, I'm sorry to see a guy like you struggling when it should be easy for you.
You could go to the salon and get it chemically straightened. This would solve your problems, but there are some cons:
-Can be expensive
-Takes time out of your schedule
-You would have to get the process re-done as your hair grows in (but you can prolong it by just straightening your roots, which would be quick)
You could try some products for sale at drugstores or beauty stores that are meant for use at home. You can 'relax' your own hair at home with relaxer or you could try deep conditioners to soften your hair.
These will also cost some money and take some time.
Have you ever thought about a shorter hair cut? I envy guys with buzz cuts because they don't have to do anything with their her! Just wash and go. Ask some friends how they think you would look with shorter hair for an honest opinion.
Just play around with some options and see what works for you. Don't give up!
Good luck,
-Abby

I feel like i am ugly most of the time, sometimes i feel pretty but that's only when i take my time on my make-up or hair. All my friends say i am really pretty but obviously i am not since i have never had a boyfriend. i also have a big nose i hate it and i told my mom and she said i could get surgery if i wanted to when i get older but i don't want to. but anyway i feel really ugly because no one likes me and i have never had a boyfriend and my sister always says she is prettier than me and i know that she is joking but that really makes me feel really ugly because my sister is always really pretty even without make-up and when she says that kind of stuff it make me feel like she doesn't approve of me as her sister. (link)
|
First off, lets start by removing ugly from your vocabulary. By calling yourself ugly, it gives other people the right to call you that.
Being pretty is not the key success. I've seen not the typical idea of attractive people getting boyfriends and girlfriends. I've definitely had moments of "What is he doing with her?! He's too cute for that!"
Getting a boyfriend is not all about being pretty. I didn't have a boyfriend til I was SEVENTEEN. I felt like a huge late bloomer. But it wasn't until then that I was confident enough, comfortable with myself, and I found the right person.
Guys are attracted to confidence and a good personality. Most guys won't go up to the most gorgeous girl if she doesn't have a smile and isn't been friendly because that is intimidating.
Sibling rivalry is probably the cause of your sister's negative comments. Next time she says something like that tell her you don't appreciate it or just ignore her. Your own family members shouldn't put you down.
You need to focus on YOU. Make a list of the things you love about yourself. Dress to bring out your features, like a mini skirt if you have great legs or a high waisted belt if you have a tiny waist.
Try your best to be friendly, outgoing, talkative, and put yourself out there. Meet new people, have fun, and soon you will be feeling a lot better about yourself. A boy will come to you when its the right time, there isn't any rush.
What I choose to believe is, attractiveness or 'prettyness' is in the eye of the beholder. Tribes that live in the Amazon think gouging their ears and lips are attractive. Everyone has their own opinion. But beauty comes from the heart. Beauty is your personality, the good you do, the people you help. It's something that just lights up the room. All you have to do is let it out. You can find someone who loves you because of your inner and outer beauty.
Good luck,
-Abby

I just bought this skirt and I really like it...I want to wear it to this banquet I have to go to this weekend...would a plain black long sleeve shirt look ok with it? like tucked in? Is it ok if the black shirt and the black of the band on the waist dont match perfectly?
http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=btms%5Fskirts&product%5Fid=2082032271&Page=all&pgcount=25 (link)
|
A black shirt would work with this. Definitely tuck it in and pair it with a bold necklace.
If you have a turtleneck, it would make the skirt look that much more stylish (think Kim Kardashian).
It's okay if the blacks don't match perfectly as long as it isn't an eye sore. If the shirt looks old and faded, don't wear it.
The best shoes for the outfit would be black pumps, but work with what you have. (Metallic shoes would also look great)
Good luck,

I'm 16, turning 17 in six months, and a junior. I'm in a class mixed with sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Apparently, all of them thought I was a freshman because I look so young.
I'm 5'2", very thin, and I don't really wear make up. I'm not going to go changing my wardrobe and begin wearing pencil skirts with high heels to look 25 at school, so I'm thinking it may be my (lack of) make up that makes me look younger.
I have very fair skin, green eyes, and brown hair. Mascara and eyeliner usually would do the trick, right? (link)

Black eye liner and mascara will definitely make you look older.
Start out slow and add mascara, then maybe a week later do some eye liner, and work your way up to a sexy cat eye. You don't want to go from natural faced to heavy make up in one day.
Stay away from super sparkly light pink lip glosses and powder blue/pastel type eye shadows because they scream young girl, and if your look is sloppy it's also going to make you look younger.
You may also just have a baby face, which isn't something you can really change. Enjoy it, because you will be looking young when your peers are complaining about how old they look!
Good luck,

There really isn't a name for that, besides maybe mini-dress or what I would call it, a skanky dress.
Try amiclubwear.com, they have a lot of simple dresses like that and they are tight and short.
Good luck,
