my boyfriend is signing up for the coasts guards, but i dont know anything about it. like, all i know is that i'm going to be here for him 100% of the way and that i'm nervous.
what do people in the coast guards do? is he going to be safe? what is boot camp like? will he be able to stay in contact with me while he's there? (link)

Well, I'm not familiar with the coast guard, but my brother is in the marines and when he was in contact, they were allowed to call at thanksgiving and christmas [if he's there at that time] and they were allowed to write and receive as many letters as you can write to them.
As for will he be safe and what is he going to do-- it all depends on which camp he gets sent to for boot camp and what life's like when he signs up. My brother signed up at the start of the current war, and he's already been to Africa for 9 months and he's on his way to Iraq for seven months.
