Q: ok so to make hearts you do & hearts without the space but how do you do other things like smileys and stuff?

To make the heart, you put & hearts ; (without the spaces). To make smilies, you could simply put :) (colon parenthesis) or =D because this site doesn't allow actual smilies on pages. Also know that the ♥ will only show up on the advice columns.
