Hi! At this point, I'm just checking back when asked a question. When my life gets less hectic, I'll start browsing to find questions to answer. But please ask; I will answer within 24 hours.

I have this Quantum Fireball 10 gig hard drive that I have been having serious problems with. Whenever I have it in my computer, as soon as I boot my computer it starts clicking and when Windows actually starts, it's really slow. I think it's skipping, but I'm not sure, what can I do do fix this. Only answer if you can think of somthing to insult me with or make me laugh...or if you can actually help me here.

It sounds like you've been taking it in and out of your computer. I'm assuming therefore it's not the drive that windows is on, and that there is another hard-drive that actually runs the computer in there. If this is not correct, let me know and I'll update the answer. :)

Start with the simple stuff - if I remember correctly, my dad had a quantum fireball 10 gig and it had jumpers. Make sure that the jumpers for the quantum are set to slave, and that the primary hard drive is set for master.

Also, check the settings in the bios. Make sure that it has the right information for both drives, and that it looks for the master/primary hard drive before the slave/secondary in the boot sequence.

If you've got another computer laying around waiting to be experimented on, shove it in there as a slave and see what happens. :)

Hard-drives last a long time unless they get tossed around like frisbees or were pretty crappy to start with. Seriously, I've had them last over 10 years when I finally tossed them out - and they still worked, I just had no further use for such tiny hard drives.

Good Luck, and feel free to ask me follow up questions. :)

(Rating: 5) Yep, your first assumption is correct, I don't really need the thing. But its good to have. Yeah, the jumpers are good.
