Q: Is it possible to get cold sores on your skin? I have something on the skin above my lip which is either a small zit or a cold sore. I don't want to put anything on it until I know what it is; as benzoyl peroxide will irritate it if it is a cold sore, and if it's a cold sore I'm not gonna do anything. Also I don't want to be popping a cold sore.
It sounds like a cold sore, you can get Abreva at your local pharmacy it is like blistex and just put it on your lips and that will reduce the duration of your break out. A cold sore is a form of Herpes but don't get upset about it. 1 out of every 4 people (25%) has type 1 Herpes because you can get it very easily but genital herpes is different entirely although you can get it around your mouth it is pretty rare. Statistics suggest that most of the worlds population will have type 1 in the next 20-30 years so it is a pretty common thing. Just use the Abreva or any type of cold sore ointment and try not to stress out because that can make it worse.

heh, yea, i know have herpes, my friends all make fun of me for it.
