Advicenators: Ask lorelei!

Hi, I'm Lorelei. I live with my mother, my older sister and my grandmother.
I travel a lot but I'm never a tourist. ;) My mother owns property all over the country and I'm extremely lucky to feel at home in so many different places. It's a lot of fun and I get to see a lot of things and meet a lot of people.
Shopping always seems to be better away from home too.
I'm very fashion-minded and stylish, spontaneous and energetic, dorky and giggly. I enjoy having a good time. Almost too much. I party every chance I get. I do drink but I do so responsibly and you should too.
I'm very young but the year 2003 caused me to learn more about who I am than some people get to learn about themselves in an entire lifetime. Ever since I've made it a point to share what I've learned with everyone possible. Ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Whether or not you found my advice useful, a rating is appreciated, good or bad. Let me know how I can improve.

We have a version of American Idol going on at our school. Only 8 people can be chosen out of the many that have auditioned, and i was one of them. One of my friends, who has an incredible voice, was also chosen, but she came in last place to compete..and she tied with someone else. The only way she could compete was if she sang with someone else as a duet or the other girl dropped out. The head of the competition told my friend this, and they both asked me to sing with her, but they didn't give me any time to think about it so i just said yes,but i sort of regret it because i had my songs already planned out and last year i was in it and got a great reputation as "that girl who can sing and dance" which i like a lot, and i'm afraid that if i sing with her, that might change, or we might not do as well as i would have hoped for...when i sing by myself, i get all eyes on me and i love to own the stage, and no i'm not self-absorbed, its just that i'd rather sing by myself. I couldn't say no because that would just be letting my friend down, but i really wish that i could sing by myself instead of a duet..i'm not sure what to do..please help. Thanx!

I think it depends on which you think is better. Helping a friend, or maintaining a bit of high school (?) glory.

If you were to perform by yourself, sure you'd get all of the applause and adulation, but do you think people will remember that as something important?

In this case, it is my opinion that helping to preserve a friendship seems more important. This, of course, is still just my opinion. You simply need to decide which is most important to you. Your friendship or your performance.

Hey, there's this really cute guy who's locker is like two away from mine...and he also goes to my church and I have this massive crush on him! The only problem is that he doesn't even know me and I don't even know his name! Also, we're not in any classes, so I only see him at the beginning and ending of each school day! I wish I could talk to him and become friends...What the heck do I do to get him to notice me?

The easiest way to get someone to notice you is to talk to them. :) Sometimes, you have to make the first move.

Try dropping something close to his feet...(something stupid that he'll definitely return :P) and when he returns it, smile and look him dead in the eye when you say thank you. Eye contact is so important. Eye contact is what makes people remember your face.

Mention that you've seen him at church before and start up a conversation about that. If your church has some kind of activity coming up, ask him if he's going.

Another big key is to be expressive. Don't over-do it of course, but if you use your hands when you talk, don't hold back from doing that. Smile and use your eyes when you speak. Things like that will really help him to remember you and make you stick out in his mind.

There is this guy in my 5th hour class and he is like really hott but I don't sit by him or anything so it sux cuz I can't talk to him. I want to get to know him, but I don't know how..?

Talk to him outside of class! :) If you spot him in the hallway or at lunch, just walk up to him, mention you're in the same 5th hour class and ask him for homework help, or some other question about the class. Spark up a conversation that way. Besides, it's not good to talk in class. ;)

I've just read one of the questions someone asked on this website abt beads given out during mardi gras or smth like that . I wear beads around my neck all the time , and i want to make sure no one mistakes me for someone who flashes .I want to know : what do these beads look like ?

Women who earn beads at Mardi Gras don't generally wear them after that. They're really gaudy, BIG beads for one. Often, they have really naughty decorations on them as well. And secondly, no one brags about earning beads by wearing them all the time. The beads usually become a conversation piece after the fun is over.

Is it wrong to like 2 people? I'm single but I flirt and like 2 guys and I think they only think that I only like that one person!

There's nothing wrong with liking two people. The way I see it, you're not obligated to either one of them, so there's no issue. There is the chance though that you could end up hurting one of them. It's not cool to lead someone on, especially if you're not interested in seriously dating them.
Of course, there's always the chance of earning a reputation, if you know what I mean.

It's up to you to decide what you value more, being able to flirt with multiple people or their feelings.

Well me and this guy lets say him name is bob well bob has like me since the first day of 9th grade... And we were best friends since the 6th grade... Well i found out he liked me and i was shocked cause his my best friend... So we went out and i didnt feel right and i broke up with him... I was so sad cause i hurt him... Well me and bob barely started talking acouple of months ago and he had a girlfriend... and they broke up and he still has feelings for her... Well me and my friends were hanging out in my house and chris called and i went down stairs and they talked and he was like so do u like *me* and he was like ya ill always like her and then she asked do u like *her* and he said ya... Then she was like so who do u choose... And he said i dunno... And by the way me and *her* got into a fist fight at school... Cause we hate each other... But ya what should i do?

I don't think there's anything to do besides be a friend. It's up to him to choose who he wants to be with and trying to influence his decision will only reflect negatively on you.

Just be there if he wants to talk, avoid confrontation with his ex and give him time to think.

The best way is to make plenty of eye contact when he talks to you. Make him think your attention is completely devoted to him and you're really interested in what he's saying. Other than that, just be yourself. :)

My sister was like to me "what are you drinking" and im like "apple juice" and she starts yelling me calling me a heffer and crap! like im not even on my diet anymore...and im not even fat but she says if i eat stuff and drink all this sugary stuff im gonna be huge later on and im like..uhh its just juice. i was thirsty so i drake some. and she was like thers crystal light..and i didnt feel like crystal light so i drank apple juice..we always fight about this and i know she cares about me and she doesnt wanna see me get huge...but she always makes me cry and she makes me feel fatter times 200. idk what to do..i hate myself now i just wanna lose weight so im anarexic like her and then shes happy and she can get off my back. ugh! what do i say to her to get her off my back!!!

Have you told her how un-helpful she's being? People who suffer from anorexia tend to be incredibly hard on themselves and sometimes on others concerning food.
If she really is an anorexic, you need to get her help. Talk to your parents or someone else you can trust. Even if she gets upset with you for doing it, she'll thank you in the long-run.

As far as yourself, you really shouldn't compare yourself to other people. Ever. Don't let anyone else influence your image of yourself because you will never be happy. You're your own person and you should work to fit your own personal standards. You say you're not dieting? You're satisfied with your weight? Stick to that! Don't let someone who's insecure about her own weight get you down.

my friend is still inlove with her ex who now has a new girlfriend and we all in job corp so we see eachother all day. She follows them around tries like hell to get them in-trouble and everything. How do i get her to stop. I have talk to her so many times and it NEVER works. But i need her because she is my friend and i'm pergnant now and i just need her with me, but i think she's going nuts. i'm always there for her it's just she's never there for me anymore.

You should try telling her how you feel. That her ex has moved on and it's time for her to do the same.

She'll get over him in time, so in that sense, of course, you need to be there for her as well. But with friends, sometimes you need to be really verbal. Tell her straight out that you feel neglected.

ok, me and my friend both have these relationships with guys, let's say "Ashley" & "Matt" and me & "John". ok, everytime "Ashley & Matt" are having a good relationship, "me & John"'s relationship has problems, but once we fix them and are doing fine, "Ashley & Matt" have problems. this happens everytime and has been ongoing for more than 3 months now. is there anything we can do to break the cycle? i will rate if you respond, cuz i really need help.

It's probably just coincidence. You're better off not comparing your relationships with that of other people's.

Let them handle their problems while you handle yours. Problems occur in every relationship and are best handled by the people involved. :)

in the column settings, you need to create a new style. then when it asks for the style base, choose the style you're using right now. save it and then edit it again. Scroll down to the "Question/Answer layout" and change [view] to whatever you want.

Sorry, I'm explaining it sort of quickly..if you still don't get it, just let me know and I'll explain as thoroughly as I can. :)

i have the worst black heads on my nose. do you know any really good foundation/coverup? thanks!

Igia makes a really good cover-up called Instant Cover. Check for it at Walgreens, eBay or just do a google search for it. It'll cost you about 20 dollars for 3 bottles with three different shades you can mix and match with.

For blackheads though, I recommend Clearasil Blackhead pads to actually get rid of them. They work pretty well from my experience. You can find those at any drugstore.

If you decide to go with Instant cover, don't use too much and finish off the cover with a bit of pressed powder.
