advice

I recently heard some of his stuff and now I really think he was just a comic genius. I want to buy a CD of his or something, does anyone recommend one in particular? And if so, is there much inappropriate stuff on it that it would be awkward to listen to with my parents? lol Thank you

I LOVE MITCH HEDBERG. my favorite one is "mitch all together", which is (i think) his last cd. yes, it would be very awkward to listen to with your parents. i would definitely listen to it alone first and then decide whether it's okay. it's not necessarily inappropriate stuff, but it's a lot of language. it's freaking hilarious though. so you'd be the best judge. but yeah, his other cd is "strategic grill locations" and i don't like that one as much. all of his stuff is really funny though. you can get his cds on itunes.

I don't have text messaging , BUT I text anyway .
Is my bill going to be a lot of money ?
Like what are the rates for texting ?

cingular is 10 cents to send one, and it's probably 10 cents to receive one too. it's best to just call the cingular people and get a plan. it's only like five bucks for unlimited, i think. check their website. 10 cents doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up... i have a friend who had a 100 dollar phone bill!

people on this site think they are so mature and know everything but they don't know shit. (some do, most dont.) first of all, alot of people on this site believe that if they live a simple life and dont care about electronics and huge houses that they are better than people who care about their appearence and want nice things. just because i have some designer stuff doesnt mean im not a good person right?!! i shop at all of the expensive stores but its because i LIKE the clothes. if you like walmart thats good for you but i dont. and i dont give a f*** what the "popular" kids think. i do what i want and just because i want nice stuff and care about my looks doesnt mean im immature. alot of people on this site are prejudice. and prejudice means PRE JUDGING. you guys are pre judging teenagers just because they give a care about how they look or what they buy. and usually its the adults who critisize teenagers. but if you havent noticed alot of teenagers are smart and they dont always follow the crowd... these uninformed people give us teenagers sterotypes when they havent even met all of us. i say i shop at abercrombie and fitch and suddenly i have all these people calling me a follower. i know how i am and i dont follow. i lead. wow, so i like the same stores as other people. BIG DEAL. i dont smoke and drink and im not a slut. i just CARE about my appearence. deal with it! stop judging the teens on this site wrong and calling them whiny bitches because its not us, it's YOU.

opinions please. =)

Somebody's a little ranty. Here's the thing: this is an advice site. Advice meaning opinions of the people on the site. If you don't want our opinions, don't ask for advice. And when you say that everybody on this site is prejudiced (it has a D on the end, get a dictionary) that's a pretty broad generalization. Are you not accusing me and everybody else here of making a similar generalization about teenagers?

Look, there are always going to be generalizations made about everybody. You said that adults always screw things up and blame it on teenagers. You also called adults "whiny bitches." Do you think that makes YOU better than any adult? Simply because you can "put them in their place"?

I don't know what to tell you. It seems that you care more about how cruel the world is to you than about how you could change that. People are always going to be mean. There are always going to be people that hate you for no reason. And people are going to generally think that teenagers are complete morons BECAUSE. OF. WHAT. YOU. JUST. SAID.

The median age on this site is like 14. Think about what that means. Are adults really out to get you? No. Are you making a fool of yourself when you come here to rant about how much your life sucks? YES. Deal with it. If you hate it, freaking change it. And you do that by presenting yourself in a manner that will make other people think, "Oh, she's mature." Right now, I feel like you feel the need to tell other people that you're a leader and not a follower, even though you have designer clothing/whatever. Does a real leader feel the need to tell other people that? No.

If you had a problem with a certain person on this site, you need to take it up with them or the mods instead of posting an open question like this. This is not an advice question; this is you ranting about how horrible we (Advicenators) are. If you think we're so horrible, why the hell are you still here?

i went wakeboarding 4 times today and i only
got up one time for half a second. i just really
have problems with getting up and i keep practicing
but its soo hard. for people who wakeboard.. what
techniques help you to get up? like should i let
the boat pull me up or what?

i just need everything that you do that helps you
get up on a wakeboard. because whenever i start
to get up i feel like i can't stand up and i fall.
ugh =/

if you've ever skiied or like kneeboarded or anything, then you know how to let the boat pull you up. on a wakeboard, basically you chill out in the water until the boat starts going. put the wakeboard under your butt (like you would with skis) and make sure you bend your knees! never lock your knees or you'll lose control. then, just let the boat pull you up. i've watched a lot of good wakeboarders do this, and sometimes it takes them a while. but that's okay as long as you don't try to get up too fast and then end up getting hurt. once the boat pulls you up (you'll pretty much be almost standing straight up in the water) turn to the side and off you go! if it's just problems getting up, that should solve it. make sure that when you're wakeboarding that you're distributing your weight properly. don't put all your weight on one foot, spread the weight out. if you've ever seen anybody slalom (ski with one ski) it looks like they're putting a lot of weight on one foot, but that's not the best idea when wakeboarding. you'll get it if you keep trying :) good luck!

i'm not sure if this is in the right category, sorry.

my nails like flake. like when they get longer, they start to look all flaky and i can even pull layers off. just the white part though. my mom said it's a lack of a certain vitamin. could that be why? what vitamin is it that i'm lacking? and if it's not that, why is this happening?

thanks a bunch! :D

it is lack of a certain vitamin. it's best if you start taking a multivitamin every once in a while. i think it's either vitamin a or calcium, but don't quote me. flintstone vitamins are the way to go. i think sally hansen makes a nail polish that makes your nails stronger. you might want to try that out too.

is it legal for rastafarians to smoke weed? because they "talk to there god" while smoking it right? so like, if they get caught smoking, cant they just say they're doing something religious because they believe in rastafarianism?

weed is still illegal, regardless. if it wasn't illegal for rastafarians, then how do the cops know who is rastafarian and who isn't? anybody can say that they are, so that wouldn't be very reliable.

If I baught a waterproof disposable camera, could I take it underwater and use it to take pics of stuff underwater? Or is there another kind of disposable camera, names would be great if there were. :)

i'm pretty sure that kodak makes them, and you can probably find them at a convenience store like walgreens. but yes, if it has the plastic underwater housing around it (plastic case around it) then you can use it underwater. it's good for snorkelers and skin divers. however, if you wanted to go scuba diving, it probably wouldn't be so great because scuba divers normally go to like 60 feet below sea level and the underwater cameras can only go to about 30 feet below sea level. but it's great for use in a lake or pool or anything, or even beside a pool if you might get splashed. the pictures won't be awesome, but they do turn out.

Does anybody know of any good songs that have to do with saying goodbye to somebody who has made a difference in your life. Not necessarily a lover, but more like a role model... I know it's hard, but if anyone can think of anything that might go, please list! Thank you!

one of my friends passed away this year and they played "hear you me" by jimmy eat world at her funeral.

At what age do teenagers usually get past basic levels of thought and begin thinking more intellectually? What I mean is...when do they start to form their own opinions, have some idea of what they want out of life, and just generally gain a more adult outlook?

i'm 15, and i honestly agree with dangernerd. even though i feel that i am mature for my age, i'm still not an adult. i would say sometime around the 20s. i know a lot of people who are in high school or college and have no idea what they want to do with their life. they don't even know what they'll be doing tomorrow. and they follow the crowd. of course, i can't exclude myself from this. there are different levels of maturity, i think... high school, which is where you are mature enough to handle a car and maybe a part time job, but your parents still pay your bills. then there is college, where you are living by yourself and surviving off of ramen noodles. you can get by, but it's not an awesome lifestyle. and then after college, you become an adult and you have to adapt to a life where your mom isn't going to be there to buy you things or tuck you in at night. as far as forming your own opinion goes... it depends. sure, we all have opinions, but many times an opinion is formed after somebody else tells us what to think. that's why it makes me angry that people talk about lowering the voting age to 16. at 16, you are still listening to everything your parents say as far as politics go. you really don't know what you believe, though you say you do. i know that i say i do, but i would be lying if i said that it's not influenced by my parents. but as far as the adult outlook goes, it really depends. last summer i went to australia for 3 weeks with like 40 other students, and i didn't see my parents for that amount of time. in that time i learned to take care of my own crap because other people weren't going to do it for me. i think that the process starts in college because you're out of your comfort zone and you have to deal with a lot more.

Okay, so my school is having a talent show thing and I really love singing, but I have really bad stage fright. But I want to sing so bad, nobody has ever heard me, except for my closest friend. So what should I do to get over this stage fright? Also what would be an easy, yet nice song to sing? (preferably rock, or soft rock, but nothing R&B or hip hope, PLEASE)

have you performed on stage before? there are lots of common misconceptions- when you're standing in the spotlight, you can't see anything around you. you can't see the audience. it feels like you're alone up there. so whenever you're singing, don't try to look into the audience. look at the back wall of the auditorium, or just stare into space. secondly, have you ever been to a talent show and felt like you really wanted the performer to do well when they got up on stage? the audience is feeling that for you. they don't want you to mess up, they're rooting for you! and they will understand if you mess up because everybody has done that. but people generally do want you to do well when you're up on a stage. you just have to pick something to do that will interest them. like, pick a popular song... something like kt tunstall's black horse and the cherry tree? that would be good, unless your whole school hates it or something. you've just got to take hold of the song. don't sing it like you're singing along with the radio, sing it like you own it. i've been playing piano for a really long time, and i used to get nervous right before a performance. but my piano teacher gave me a little tip: when you're nervous, you tend to shake, so to get rid of the shakiness, you need to move around. so i normally skip through hallways or parking lots or whatever. it works! also, i'm not a singer, but i hear that it helps if you don't drink cold water right before a performance. always remember to warm up a little bit before you go out there. good luck!

i need a recording software for my computer that is free or a trail download or some one can send me. i am looking for fetures such as recording through microphone / recording overlay (so i can listen to a part i allready recorded, and record while listening to that part) and any other kool fetures but the overlay and mic part are what i want most at the moment thanks :P.

PS: names of sofware, or if any one has any tips for "ulead video10" recording because that is what i am using at the moment

thanks alot in advance

go to download.com or m-audio.com. you're probably not going to find anything fantastic for free. m-audio does have a fast track usb program that is fantastic and comes with session software. i use it and it does what you're talking about. also, i'm not quite sure if this will work for you, but try searching for a program called audacity on download.com.

my friend lets call him Jason, well he got suspened for a week in a half, for a bunch of random things
Well today he came in for like 5 min to get his school stuff, and my friend was with him and like alls he did was say hi to me and walk away and a bunch of people talked to him
Idk me and him are bestest friends , and it was just werid
think hes mad at me or just maybe he didnt want to talk or was to busy or something?
thanks

i'm sure he was busy thinking about lots of other stuff. if he was suspended from school, he probably couldn't stay for very long so he was trying to leave quickly i suppose. and if he knows that you two are best friends, then he probably thinks that you understand that he didn't have a lot of time. maybe he didn't feel like talking (not likely because he talked to other people), but i think he was probably just really busy.

if i try weed/ a cig
will i get addicted the first time
of do you get addicted if you do it more than once?

i've heard of people getting addicted the first time. they try it once and say, "i'm never going to do this again, it's a one time thing" and then a few weeks later they're trying cigarettes or weed again. and then it just doesn't stop from there. the thinking there is "if i only smoke one more, it can't hurt me" but then they get addicted, some without even realizing it. i think cigarettes are easier to get addicted to. i've never tried cigarettes or weed, but there are more people out there who get addicted to smoking cigarettes the first time than people who smoke weed once and get addicted. i've heard of people trying weed and just quitting after that. the best thing to do is just not try it because if you get addicted, it's a hard/nasty habit to break.

when you say "thank god" is that considered taking the lords name in vain?

some people would consider it taking his name in vain, but i really don't because it's thanking him if you mean it sincerely. if you are saying it as a joke, or in a sarcastic way, then it would probably be considered taking his name in vain. i mean it when i say it so it doesn't bother me.

How can you get rid of a sore throat by Saturday? Or at least some methods to make it feel better for that day.

I woke up with one today, and I am going to Six Flags with my class.

Thank you in advance.

oh, i hate when that happens! here's what you can do: sore throat lozenges (like chloraseptic, or chloraseptic spray even though they both taste like crap), cough drops, hot tea! drink lots of hot things, tea being the best. don't drink cold stuff, and don't talk too much. make sure to get enough rest. gargle with warm salt water repeatedly (maybe a few times when you get up, or when you go to sleep). i'm not really sure about this one because i'm not sure if it's true or not, but people who play wind instruments (saxophones, flutes, clarinets, trumpets) don't eat dairy products a few days before a concert. that's supposedly because the dairy clogs up your throat. so maybe you could stay away from milk and cheese and yogurt. it's best that you drink tea anyway :) i hope you get better!

im drinking saturday and how do you drink so that you DONT get drunk...?

it depends on your weight. somebody said that you're 14, so 2 drinks would probably be too much. the best thing to do is make sure you have eaten beforehand. also, drink water at the same time you're drinking whatever alcohol so that the alcohol is diluted as it enters your bloodstream. the best way to not get drunk is to not drink. you already know this, but it is illegal for a minor to consume alcohol, and it is illegal for somebody to supply a minor with alcohol.

EDIT: did you rate me a 4 because i told you the alcohol laws? that's fine, really. claiming ignorance to the law does not make one immune to the law. judging by this scenario, i will not be surprised if you learn that through firsthand experience. and if you want to look up how much you can drink based on your weight, hello google or any driver's education source.
