Hi, I'm 17 years old. I will be a TARHEEL come fall!

My goal on advicenators is to give advice based on what I really think, not what I think you'll like to hear. Everything that I say comes from personal experience.

I'm so sick of being alive. Everything is so hard. I can't stand it. It's like I'm doing something wrong. I have few friends, but it doesn't matter because I don't like them. I don't like any one. People don't meet my standards and they never will. And when it comes to girls I have no idea what I'm doing. It's like there's some secret technique that every one but me seems to understand. My problems with girls contribute the most to my loneliness and depression. I'm unmotivated in school, because I care more about trying to find a place I belong, trying to find some one who understands me. I can hardly sleep because I'm always worrying about all this. I'm scared I'll never have friends. I'm scared I'll never have a good job. I'm scared I'll never have my first kiss or have sex, and if I do it will be with some one I don't want to do it with. Somewhere between now and the next few years I 100% sure I'll be dead. I can't take it anymore. I've been to therapy and they even locked me up like a criminal in a mental health ward, but to no avail. I hate life. I hate myself. I hate every one, especially if they're happy. I don't see things ever getting better. Please help me. And don't post anything about God, Jesus, or religion of any kind, it will be an automatic 1 on your rating. (link)
Hi, I'm really sorry that you feel this way, and I'm glad that you sought advice.
Please don't commit suicide. Your life is precious.
Although you might think that no one cares, I promise you that someone does. More than just one.
I swear.
I want you to struggle through all this. Remember that you can do anything-- if you are alive. Try to find the strength within yourself to pull yourself out of this despair you are in.
Write in a journal every night before... as much as you can. Try to express every single unhappy thought. It may be alot, but do it.
Then write about every happy thing that has happened, even the most minor.
These are the things you won't experience if you don't live.
Think about all the things that you want to experience--having a girlfriend, marriage, etc. etc. You'll never have a chance by just giving up.
Listen to calming music when you go to bed.
Then for the next week, try doing nice things for people, even if you hate them. Open their doors. Smile at them.
I can't promise you this, but I think that when you make other people happy, you'll also be during yourself a favor.

I know you are having trouble in your love life.
Don't worry about it. You are 16--how many teenage relationships truly last? Some do, but it's not a large number. You don't need a girlriend.
One day you'll meet a girl who you like, and she'll like you back. It WILL happen. Just give it time.

Meanwhile, do something that you really enjoy... whether it is sports, or a club. Maybe take a fun class.

I wish you the best.

My cousin is 12 and is half a foot taller than me. Most people at school are taller than me, but I never seemed to mind or pay attention to it until my cousin moved into the state. I am 14 and am 5 foot. Am I short or is everyone else just tall? Please be honest! (link)
You're short. Lol.
I'm kinda tall though... I just turned 15 a week ago, and I'm 5'8.

okay so me and this guy met over the net and Ireally really really like him and he really really really likes me too but the problem is tht we live in two wayyy different places and we both want to meet up somewere when were older but the problem is how do I know its really that guy talking to me and not a poser or something?

please reply. (link)
You can't know for sure, so be careful.

The best thing I can come up with is that he uses a webcam, while you two are talking on the phone. So you can ask him to do something like, hold up a sign that says something random, or wave at you, or whatever. And of course whatever you ask him to do on the phone, should appear almost instaneously on the webcam.

I make no guarantees on this working lol.

soo i told my gf that i love her, and she really did not say it back, she is really shy and all plus i'm her firt boyfrined, so what should i do? (link)
Don't read much into it. She was probably shy, so just give her time. She'll say it when she means it.

When she says it, you'll know that she really does love you. :)

ok at night i have a very hard time going to sleep. i cant go to sleep anytime before 3:00 and i hate that because then i wake up late ( 1:00 - 2:30 ) and i feel like i wasted my day. at night i try going to sleep around 12:30 but i cant fall asleep so i either watch tv or go on the computer. now that school is starting i want to go to bed early (10:00 - 11:00 ) so i can wake up in the morning. what can i do to help me fall asleep at night? (link)
Everything that everyone else said was very good...this is what I would do to be able to fall asleep
1. Drink warm milk
2. Take a warm shower or bath
3. Turn of all lights
4. Make sure where you sleep is cool, and use your comforter or a blanket to cover yourself up.
5. Try not to think about anything at all (music doesn't help me fall asleep because it makes me think about things)
6. Do not take ANY naps during the day. Go to bed at a set time (around 10pm) and even if you have trouble falling asleep still, and so are tired in the morning, set your alarm around 8. And make sure you wake up. This will help you get very tired by the time 10pm rolls around.
7. To me, this is the most important one and what worked for me. EXERCISE. I read in the USA Weekend that exercising is a good way to get better sleep. (Which I guess is sort of obvious, but this is the reason why you should exercise: Most people's minds are very tired at night, but if you haven't done anything all day, your body won't be tired. So without exercising, your mind is tired, but your body wants to run around and exercise.)

My parents think every plan for a cellphone is expensive! That's why i'm wondering if that kidconnect plan from t-mobile for 19.99 a month is actually good? I don't care that it has only 50 minutes. Is this plan good for a 13 year old girl? (link)
Hi. I'm 14 and since I don't really talk on the phone alot, but just need a way of communicating when it's necessary, I have a T-Mobile phone. It doesn't look that great, and it's not the coolest but it's pretty useful and the service is good also. My phone is a Nokia 6010. Here's a pic:

You can get it at walmart very cheap. Around $30.

It comes with 59 minutes or so, I'm not sure.

You use calling cards to get minutes, so you don't have to pay every month.

You can buy $10 worth, which is 30 minutes, and it will last a month. ($0.33/min)

You can buy $25 worth, and get 130 minutes, lasting 3 months. ($.029/min)

You can buy $50 worth, and get 400 minutes, lasting 3 months. (%0.13/min)

Or you can buy %100 worth, and get 1200 minutes. It lasts a year.

I strongly suggest you get the $100 card, because you don't have to keep on buying cards every month or 3 months, and it is less than $0.10 a minute, only about !!!9 cents!!!.

I personally thought that was a pretty good deal.

Here's the website:

Hope this helps. :)

I don't know if this goes here.....but....anyway...
I was listening to Carrie Underwood's song "Jesus Take the Wheel" and i was wondering...
is there an explanation to why people's lives flash before their eyes when something bad is about to happen (like the accident in the song)

I have always wondered about that!!
Thanks in advance~ I RATE (link)
Hey... I don't think this is necessarily true.

I have an embarassing story to share.

When I was in 6th grade (I'm now in 10th), my entire class (6th grade) took a field trip to Wild Waters ( a water park).
The thing is, I had never swam before. Not in a pool, nowhere. So I didn't know how to swim.
So there was this big wave pool, where everyone could swim. My friends and I went in there. I went in around 3/4 of the way.
The next thing I knew, I was underwater. My first thought was "OMG, is this really happening? I don't want to die." I could see the water and other people.
And finally a lifeguard saved me. I knew I was supposed to not struggle, so I didn't. You would not believe how absolutely glad I was to be breathing in air. It was unbeliebable embarassing though.
I didn't go on any other water rides after that, and didn't cry until I got home.
And from then, I've always dreaded water.

Sorry that this doesn't really apply to your question closely (I like telling stories lol...and that was a true one), and perhaps that wasn't a near-death experience because I was saved, but I think it is.

The point is, while I was underwater, my life was not flashing before my eyes. I was mainly incredulous that I was about to die, like that and young too. And wondering if it were really happening.

ok. so, school started for us thursday, august 10. my classes are great, and i have atleast one friend in each class. in p.e., i have several friends, but atleast half of them are really good runners. every year, we do this fitness thing where we have to do sit-ups, stretching, etc. we also have to do a mile run. this bothers me a lot, because i'm not really a good runner, and i feel bad because my friends are really athletic, and i wanna atleast be behind them in the mile run, not somewhere near the end. i know i can focus myself to not stopping and stuff, and that i can probably take the pain, but i have troubles with the breathing. how are you supposed to breathe while running so you won't get too tired or any of that stuff? (link)
Ok, I do cross country and track.
Well, you're supposed to take deep breaths every time, so that it not only fills up your lung, but your stomach also. Breathe in through your nose, breathe out through your mouth. Make sure you breathe rhthymically. Concentrate on your breathing.

As for running, you have to use good form. This means that your back is pretty straight, not leaning forward or back. You also have to keep your elbows up, so it should be around your ribs, not your waist.
Keep a steady pace, and sprint at the end.

Try not to think "I don't want to run," or "I feel like stopping," while you're running. Try to think about anything else, or look at the scenery. And if you really feel like stopping, think "I'll at least get to that tree" or whatver (if you are running in a woody area), and when you pass that tree, think "i'll at least get to THAT tree". Or, just concentrate on your strides or breaths.

If you want to run faster, pump your arms faster, and your legs will automatically want to speed up.
If your arm feels tired, try not to clench your fists too tightly. Also, if you use longer strides (do it consciously) you will find that your time will be faster.

Hope this helps.

Tell me how you do. :)

ok for some reason whenever i sign onto my aim screenname, it says someone else is also on it. I always kick the other user off, but I just want to know how to stop this from happening. DO NOT say to change my password because ive already changed it 3 times in the past 2 days. Its not working. Thanks ♥ (link)
Alright, I just wanted to reassure you that it's almost definitely not someone getting into your screenname and using it. So, DON'T change your screenname just because of that.

The problem is that you probably do not sign off before restarting or shutting down your computer.
Or, sometimes when your computer freezes, and you have to End Program, or whatever, you are not signing off. Or, sometimes you may get kicked offline (if you have dial-up) or your computer may shut off (perhaps because of thunderstorms) and again, you are not able to sign off.

This should help. :)

well school is about less than a month away. I'm going to be a freshman but I'm really nervous because of the grades being mixed together. I was just wondering from expierenced, is high school very different from middle school? and could someone just tell me like somethings i might want to know before I go? thankss. (link)
High school is different from middle school—but not extremely so. You have more freedom, more responsibilities, more difficult classes. Maybe your middle school teachers told you what to expect in high school, but a lot of that isn’t true. The teachers are still quite lenient, and you will find some that you respect very much and others you will learn to hate.
I personally thought high school is much better than middle school (I’m starting my sophomore year this year and looking forward to it). You’ll find many different groups of people, the preps, the nerds, the jocks—all of that. These groups aren’t clear cut though. Each group mingles with the rest. High school is stereotyped, and often wrongly. There aren’t many people who won’t associate with anyone outside their “group.” You’ll have friends from every group, most likely.
Also, the upperclassmen-picking-on-freshmen is way overrated. I don’t think I was ever picked on because I was a freshmen. And if you are picked on, it won’t be in a mean way; it’ll be more of a joking-around way.
Starting high school, you will find that many of your middle school friends don’t want to be friends with you anymore, or you may feel that way about your old friends.
The first day of school, I suggest that you find a close friend from middle school or someone you already know, to hang out with. The first day is very, very exciting. There are so many different people. You won’t really know everyone in your class until at least a week.
Most likely a large number of the kids from your middle school will find each other, and sit together for the first day. It won’t be until later that everyone begins splitting up into other groups that include new people.
Don’t worry about getting lost. Just ask around.
If there’s one suggestion that comes to mind for you, it’s to join a sport. You’ll make, without a doubt, many friends. It doesn’t matter what sport you do or even if you’re good at it. Just join. I did cross country and track and I loved the people who ran with me.
Also, on the first day of school, wear something that will make a good impression. First impressions really do count. So, don’t wear anything very low cut or revealing, but dress nice. A skirt and a cute top, or jeans and a cute top, will do.
Try to be as friendly as possible to everyone.
Hope this helps. J
