Advicenators discussion: my crazy abuse report =p

Melody wrote Thursday March 6 2008, 7:16 pm:
I don't know if you remember me sending a recent abuse report that you closed, but it appears I sent the wrong link. The abust I meant to report was taken care of by someone else, but I just wanted to apologize. I'm aware you can't read minds like I made you think =]

Ohh, okay. It's cool.

Thank you for taking action on my report. I greatly appreciate it. :)

No problem.
Every time I log in, the first place I visit are the abuse reports.

Just make sure to always provide a link, and occasionally a little specific information on what you feel is wrong. JUST giving a link doesn't always help, usually give us a link and a sentence or two.

Also, if you ever THINK there is a problem, but you're not positive, file a report anyway. There is no shame in filing a report and us telling you that what the user is/was doing is/was okay.

The only thing I will stress upon. If a rating is a 3 or above we aren't going to change it. 3s and higher are GOOD ratings!

Haha. I think of my intense history of abuse reports, I've only had one where I didn't give a link.

Haha. And the funny thing is I thought I did.

Then again there's that one abuse report I filed on myself! =O
S_C wrote Wednesday June 18 2008, 8:02 pm:
That was my favorite report - ever!
I still can't believe you did that. haha (O_O)
Cux wrote Wednesday June 18 2008, 8:35 pm:
Haha. I'm silly.

I guess I was looking for revenge. I was banned for it, so anyone else that did it, they had to go down with me! =]

Though I was the one who asked the question. I wasn't having rational thoughts... =]

Yeah, we get some pretty good laughs with some of the abuse reports filed.

Then again, there are a few people I'd really like to cyber slap when I'm reviewing reports.

1. People who don't include links.
2. People who don't say what they're reporting.
3. People who report someone else for doing exactly what they have done [hypocrits] and then get mad when we ban both parties involved.
4. People who don't include links.
5. People who think we're the question asker when it comes to reporting for ratings abuse.
6. People are think getting a 3/4 is ratings abuse.
7. People who don't include links because they think we read minds.
8. People who report something that happened 2 years ago (I'm only picking on you, Jack - I've done it too)
8. Did I include those who think we're mindreaders when they don't include links?

When abuse reports first came out, I didn't understand the linking deal. So I just copy pasted all of the text of a question I found abusive and that was it :D. I believe that jbdreamer person handled it, so you can imagine how long ago this was.

Oh wow, that was a while back.

Honestly, I wish we would update our FAQ.
I'm sure DN is probably working on it, but it needs to be done.

A lot of things we ban for aren't clear in the FAQ, and sometimes they aren't really listed (such as ratings abuse... I don't think, anyway).

I wouldn't mind doing it. It would probably take a lot of time though. Maybe if we came up with a list of what everyone thinks should be in the FAQ, and then the upper level mods decide how to expand on the information.

It really does need to be updated, though.

As always, I'm willing to help.

I have a WHOLE summer ahead of me and I plan to use most of it on Advicenators.
S_C wrote Thursday June 19 2008, 9:00 pm:
I'm going to start a new topic here on the TOPICS/CATEGORIES of what we feel should be discussed in an updated FAQ.
Then we can add sub categories, details, etc.

Then, if we feel it's decent enough, myself or someone else could post it into the mod discussion and ask the opinions of other mods.

Maybe DN will see the thread or I could e-mail him and see what he thinks.

I think it's safer/smarter to start it between us, first.

Hopefully as it gets deeper in to summer, people will find this more and post in your new topic about FAQ =]
