Advicenators discussion: Hall of Gold AngelofMercy wrote Thursday March 6 2008, 12:58 pm: I figured that since we already have a Hall of Shame going around in the forums, I would start a Hall of Gold. Here is a place to put questions that have good spelling, grammar, punctuation, proper English, and is a truly good question. Something everyone would rate a 3. I know there are not that many out there anymore, so I figured with this, at least we could encourage people to try and do their best on questions. LOL_x0x wrote Thursday March 6 2008, 6:39 pm: We had a "Hall of Fame" somewhere...
haha but I'm glad you started a new one =] LOL_x0x wrote Thursday March 6 2008, 6:41 pm: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
That one had good punctuation and spelling. =] AngelofMercy wrote Thursday March 6 2008, 9:48 pm: That is a good one. Not many people even know how to use the English language properly, so when there is something really well written, and is a decent question, it is worth mentioning.
Bravo to you Laura for spotting it, and bravo to the person who wrote it!!! ChevyIINova wrote Wednesday April 2 2008, 1:11 am: Oh, I did notice a typo. The "i" in Internet should be capitalized. Although, I do like theymos's reply, "It's normal for it to happen around every 40 hours or 2 weeks of use, whichever comes first." LOL ChevyIINova wrote Wednesday April 2 2008, 1:12 am: Somehow I get the feeling this topic is going to die a quick and painful death. I'll try to find more too. AngelofMercy wrote Wednesday April 2 2008, 11:56 am: If you haven't noticed, I haven't actually posted one in here!! Hahaha! ChevyIINova wrote Thursday April 3 2008, 1:05 am: What I meant about this thread dying is...Well, when is the last time you came across a well written question? I can forgive punctuation, some spelling errors and among many other things. We all make mistakes as far as that goes. What gets me is the lack of thought that goes into the questions or the vague information. Just like the link I posted earlier. It's not a refusal to answer these sort of questions, it's just impossible. You don't know how bad I want to reply with, "thanks for sharing" since the question appears as if it's a statement. AngelofMercy wrote Thursday April 3 2008, 10:47 am: That's what I meant. Not many questions are on this thread because none have struck me as great questions. I mean in more ways than one. Here is my criteria for it to be a great question (of course, if others feel it is a great question in one way or another, than they can feel free to post here, but this is the standards I use).
1. Proper Grammar.
2. Correct Spelling.
3. Ease of reading.
4. Content actually is a wonderful question, not like before mentioned on questions I hate.
5. No pointless banter. I can answer your question better if it is stated like this:
"I am a 13-year-old female. I am having headaches, stomach cramps, and tired. What could be the problem?"
instead of this:
"I went to play golf with my friends today and I scored badly. We got a slurpy after we were done and then went to the movies. I like this person but I am unclear of why they are avoiding me. Anyway, I am having headaches, stomach cramps, and tired. What could be the problem?"
Who gives a shit that you went golfing, got a slurpy, went to the movies, and someone is avoiding you, if that is not part of the question? It seems stupid to me to leave out information that actually needs to be said and putting crap in there that has no bearing on the question itself. Did that make sense?
Sorry did it again, rant over. ChevyIINova wrote Thursday April 3 2008, 4:42 pm: LMAO on the last part...So true... I'll add more later but I am off to work. ChevyIINova wrote Friday April 4 2008, 12:56 am: I hate those questions!
