Tsk tsk.
I'm actually surprised that I was never given a warning ban way back in the day. Seriosuly. Go to the first few pages of my colum. Or actually, maybe the 10th or so. A few months ago I attempted to edit my old answers to make them readable. I didn't get very far - I'm sure it was only a few pages or so. I was horrible! Yikes, talk about confusing and eye-burning material!
I have this "quick-write" assignment in my speech and debate class due tomorrow. The topic question is "What is something that really bothers you and how can you fix it?"
My answer: "My biggest pet peeve is when people intentionally misuse the English language. Accidental comma splice misspellings, or subject/verb disagreement is okay; but when someone purposely signs onto a computer and starts typing away in that glorious place I call "cyber-space" with full on usage of chat-speak such as "LOL", "wut iz up mahh homiezz", and other illegible type... well, it really irks me. There is a myriad of simplistic changes that can be made to solve this truly aggrivating issues. One way is to only allow people to sign into a computer if they have correctly answered 5 captchas that determine whether or not they know basic proper grammar. For example, and there is already a website that makes a mockery of illiterates that does this, offers a person a fill-in-the-blank sentence with 2-3 answer choices, they must next choose which is grammatically correct before moving on and being allowed to interact with others. If someone has trouble distinguishing when to use "they're" in comparison to "their" or "there" then there are some serious issues going on in their lives. In such a technologically advanced world it saddens me that people feel that, simply because they are using a computer, they are allowed to forget all of the spelling, grammar, and mechanics lessons they were once taught.
Pretty smart answer, right?
I just hope my spelling/grammar/mechanics were correct otherwise my teacher is going to think I'm a hypocritical buttface. =]
Yes; I can be a hypocrite sometimes. I will occasionally use the "shortened" version of a text message if I'm in a HUGE hurry, but that is different, I promise. =] Brandi_S wrote Wednesday February 13 2008, 4:09 pm: Hi Kate...
Don't worry about answers from a long time ago. Keep in mind how good of a columnist you are now! :-D S_C wrote Wednesday February 13 2008, 7:55 pm: Aww, thanks. =] Cux wrote Saturday February 16 2008, 8:14 pm: Check out my forum.. 'You Will Suffer the Consequences If You Don't Tell Me..'
