Question Posted Thursday November 12 2015, 1:24 am
So at school we are doing a project and the person I am paired up with is pretty quiet, and when I try to talk to him about the project, he just talks in a way which makes me feel dumb, he doesn't show much interest. He is really smart and he is pretty much doing all the work so far, I am trying to communicate, asking him what he has done since he hasn't shared his work with me. I am trying to communicate but he keeps doing work without telling me and then he would say "no I've already done that". This is all fine that he is like that, I just don't know how to communicate with him more and make him feel more comfortable working with me. I don't think we'd have anything to talk about, he's more into politics. Any tips? Thanks!

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to get him to communicate better with you. However, I think it would help if you tried to get to know each other better. You might find that you have more in common than you think. I was in a similar situation for an english project in high school. It was really awkward when I would meet up with my partner, but we ended up talking about our future aspirations. We didn't get much work done that time, but we were definitely more comfortable around each other after that. It made the project a whole lot easier to complete. I think if you can find something that both of you can talk about, he will become more comfortable around you. For the project itself, I would give him a rubric or a list of what you have to complete and have him check off all the parts he has done so you know what is left for you to do. If that still doesn't work, you should ask him directly what parts he thinks you should do. Good luck with your project! [ mannequin24's advice column | Ask mannequin24 A Question ]
