Hi! So I have this friend and I love him dearly, but I'm so jealous of him and his life. I'm jealous of his house and his personality and he has a wonderful family, which I don't really have. I don't have brothers to look to as an example, I kind of raised myself in many ways. Yes, I do have two parents who I was adopted by who provide for me sufficiently as far as material things like clothes. But my mother just yells at me for the littlest things, which has actually caused me to be depressed. She yelled at me when I told her I was depressed because she thought I was trying to make her feel guilty. I know I should be happy with what God gave me because we'll all be rich in heaven, but he's even a better Catholic than I am! I just don't know what to do. He's so smart, and I have two Cs.

Ocalaphernella answered Sunday May 31 2015, 6:57 pm: I understand how hard it is when you see someone with a better life. I have a friend that I had been jealous of for the longest time, but eventually I just stopped and let it go. And I think that is really the only thing to do. So it's normal to feel how you feel, but you can't constantly be comparing yourself to other people, because it just won't help your circumstances, or your friendship, or your attitude, or really anything. So you just gotta let it go and accept that things are the way they are. Especially when it comes to spirituality. But besides, you never know what could be going on in his life. He could secretly have a really crappy family life where his parents are really hard on him when it comes to grades or something. No ones life is perfect, after all.
Hope this helps~ [ Ocalaphernella's advice column | Ask Ocalaphernella A Question ]
