The pain you describe may be more of a muscular pain from the muscle at the entrance of your vagina being stretched. The head of a mans penis is larger in girth than the shaft so it would be normal to feel more stretched when he enters you then during coitus.
If this is the pain you are having then external lubrication on the head of his penis and the outer ring of your vagina will help some as it will ease him past but you will still be stretched and there will still be some pain.
I would suggest talking to your GYN about this. He or she should be able to help you either with some exercises you can do to help relax that muscle or with a muscle relaxant.
I don't think there is anything really wrong with you. What I think is that you are a young married women who is only 22. Old habits and fears take time to die off. Meaning all the old fears of teenage sex are still with you and you still tense up when you have sex with your husband. My wife was the same way when we first married and she was 3 years older than you being the good catholic girls she was lost her virginity at 21.
But I am not a doctor and you could be having a different problem then my wife so it would be good to check in with your GYN. Don't be embarrassed the doctor has heard this and more long before your visit. Helping you with problems like this is part of what a GYN is trained for. ]
sounds like you need to be using some lube or he should be slowly going in and out to make sure you have enough of your own natural lube inside you for him to proceed deeper first. try buying some lube. ]
