i dont know what to do

Question Posted Tuesday August 12 2014, 3:44 pm

all my life school has been easy for me one look at a paper and I ace the test but 8th grade is the year where they prepare you for highschool and everything wasn't so easy anymore I was still in the advanced classes but it was way harder than 7th grade then 8th grade ended and all my friends wanted to take honors classes next year and I thought I could handle it but there were summer assignments that we have to do to get into the class and it was so much and im really lazy I do all my work the very last second and now its the end of summer and I still haven't done anything so I decided to take regular classes and be the top of my class in all or in most of my classes and then in 10th grade ill take honors classes but my friends don't understand when they do schoolwork it didn't come as easy as it did to me so I know they can do it and they don't understand that sliding and lying my way through school it worked until now but honors classes I know wont take my lies so how am I gunna from saying "I did it its just at home" to having a stack of papers and ill het overwhelmed and not do it until the last minute and it will not be my best work so whats the point

so my question is should I wait until 10th grade or should I get my act together and stay in honors classes ??

What I think I'm seeing is a bit of fear of the unknown, fear of having to work harder than you ever had too before and fear of having to take responsibility for yourself. I say this as someone old enough to be your grandfather and have been through this with my children and really not looking forward to going through it with grandchildren.

What you fear in short is growing up. I went through it and so did your parents and grandparents. It is a fact of life that we all face and face over and over again as we go through each stage of our lives.

Now to your question as to take honors classes this year or in 10th grade. I don't know you so I am not qualified to answer that question directly. What I will tell you is that by taking regular classes you are fooling yourself into believing you can be top of the class and continue to bluff your way through another year. In essence you are taking a cowards way out by failing to stand up and accept a new challenge.

New challenges are something you will face from here on out as you go through life. If you don't accept this challenge next year when you enter 10th grade you will find new excuses not to accept the challenges of the honors programs offered to you. Failure to do so now will be come a habit you will regret later in life when all your friends pass you bye as they move up the ladder of success.

I'm writing to you as one adult to another. You may not like what I'm saying but it needs to be said. What I would like you to do is sit down with your parents and your class advisor to find out what your teachers feel you are capable of doing. Your teachers are not going to give you more than they believe you can handle. No matter what you believe they are there to see to it that you succeed.

The biggest problem you will face in the honors program is not the work but managing the time to get the work done. This is an area that I excel in, time management. If you do decide to take the honors classes and want help with time management I would be honored to assist you. You can contact me in a private message through this website and I will give you a list of questions then I will propose a time management calendar for you to use and how to use it.
