Can't Decide Which Bachelor

Question Posted Sunday April 13 2014, 11:51 am

Well, I'm just finishing high school and next year I'll be going to university. See, my head has always been divided by arts and sciences, I can't live without one of them. Since I was little I was a little geek that asked for a microscope and a telescope when little and memorized a little book about the planets. I also loved to scavenge the grounds for "minerals" and "diamonds". Silly, I know, but I didn't know how silly it was when I was six! Anyways, I also loved to draw a lot. As I got into high school I also developed myself as a writer - I just LOVE writing, just about anything. My friends would always come to me when we had to do essays so I could peer review before the teacher saw them. I even write fanfic novels in wattpad and Fanfiction.net.

I entered my desired college through the Geology Department. Hehe, more scavenging. However...I'm worried. I don't want to loose my artistic side my emerging myself in all the science, loosing my inspirations and forgetting about my hobbies. My roommate is going for a bachelor in Physics so that doesn't really help. Not that she doesn't have an artistic side too because she does, she just inclined more for sciences. So, my problem here is that I was planning on taking a minor on either English Literature or Plastic Arts. However, I now realized that the minors aren't really looked at very much. I started thinking about a "double major". I don't know if that's a good idea however. I don't want to be from those type of people that works too much and forgets about family, because I still want to have time to be with them and friends and just have fun, not be always cooped up studying in a corner. What should I do? In any case I might take English Literature as my other major along with Geology.

I AM LITERALLY HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.... sort of....

I am a sixth form student in the UK so I don't really know much about US education, but I'm taking Biology, Chemistry, English Lit and Drama A Levels and have decided to take English at University.

To be honest, Geology or science will probably earn you more money and get you a job beyond college/uni. There is always a demand for more people with specialist knowledge, and trust me, as someone who is about to dive headlong into the arts world, it is really competitive out there! You CAN keep up your hobbies. College/Uni has loads of clubs and societies for you to join with like minded people. You will not loose your artistic side if you keep up those hobbies. Hobbies such as writing can be kept up if you just set aside some time to do them and be committed.

If you can take English and Geology though, DO IT. Its good to have as many skills as possible and get the broadest horizon~~~. In all honesty, when you get to do higher education, it helps to do something you love, because then you will do well in it, and WANT to work.
