Soon I will be flying for the first time. I was told to come early for check-in, but I really don't know what to expect. I am flying on southwest, if it matters. Can you tell me what to expect when I go to get ready for a flight? Super nervous!

It is first based on the higher price tickets and then on how early you check in. The earlier you check in for the flight the higher you are in the boarding process. To that end you can check in on line 24 hours in advance. There is no assigned seating on Southwest. It is first come first served. So the sooner you check in the higher you are in the boarding process the better chance you have a getting a choice seat.
Just go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) click on check in and follow the prompts. When you arrive at check at the airport you will have a boarding pass on your phone or other hand held device to use to go the security then to the gate. If you have any baggage you can check that in at curbside.
Southwest does not serve any meals only cookies, crackers and drinks. If you are going to be traveling over a meal period you may want to purchase a sandwich to eat on board. Once you are through security you will find a number of places you can purchase food from or sit down and have a meal before boarding.
One thing that is very important. Make sure to be in the gate area at least 20 minutes prior to departure of your flight. Southwest is very punctual and if you are not on the plane in your seat prior to 10 or 15 minutes to departure they will give your seat away to stand by passengers if any.
