Skiped period on birth control pills

Question Posted Monday February 3 2014, 12:39 am

I have been taking Birth control for about 4 months. In the beginning of january I skipped a whole week (white pills) my step mom told me it was alright, and to continue with my second week as if I took the first. I felt so nauseous during the second week, I through up a couple hours after my pill. The last week came and I never received my period. It is 26 days late and I have an appointment 7 days from now, so it'll be about a month late when i go..I have been feeling sick, and have been having stomach aches. Just not feeling normal. I know Im bound to find out and I am ready for anything but I cant sleep thinking about what it would be. Im so anxious. What could it be?

If you are a non-sexually active teen who was prescribed the pill as a way to regulate your period, like having too heavy a flow for example, it may take a matter of time to find the right one where the type of hormone in the pill or the amount of it, suits you best.
The hormones can bring on the awful side effects you are feeling and in some cases, females are not experiencing these symptoms right away from the start of taking the pill.
Skipping a week, whether it was your active pills or the sugar pills should not be the cause of throwing up and getting sick like that because as with any pill, there is a week that the placebo pill is taken to give your body a chance to have a normal period.
If you have been sexually active due to the fact that you are on the pill, even missing one day let alone a week will greatly increase your chances of becoming pregnant.
And lastly, even though your period didn't come and you may need a different prescription, if the throwing up and sickness has only been a day or two, it could be just the timing and you caught a flu bug.

The white pills I believe you are talking about are generally placebo pills. They are usually an inactive pill such as a sugar pill put in the case so that you remain in the habit of taking a pill each day. During the time you take the placebo pill your body has the opportunity to have a period.

There are a number of reasons why you didn't get a period. The most likely cause of missing which is high on the list is stress. Stress from worry about being pregnant. The more you worry the higher your anxiety and stress are.

I would suggest rather than wait until you see the doctor and then wait until the test result come back. Is you purchase a home pregnancy test. The chances are very high in your favor that you are not pregnant. Once you know for sure that you are not pregnant your stress level will come down and hopefully your next period will arrive on time.

I would suggest that you keep your doctors appointment regardless of the results of the home test, even though they should be negative. There is nothing like having the doctor confirm the test to put you totally at ease. While you're there the doctor can check for other reasons you feel as you do.

Well, first we need to know a couple more details. Have you had sex recently? If you have, it's possible - yet highly unlikely - that you might be pregnant. Most birth control pills are only around 89% effective, with the best being about 99% effective. That still leaves 1 out of 100 or 1 out of 10 people on birth control getting pregnant without using any other forms of protection. If you use BCP and condoms together, however, the chances of getting pregnant are reduced to something like 0.0001%.

Another thing we need to know is what you mean by "white pill". From what I've seen of my girlfriend's BCP(she's used a few brands over the past few years), typically the white pills are sugar pills - the ones you take during your period just so you don't forget to keep taking them. The actual birth control pills(Progestin)are typically an orange or red color.

However, with one brand, I noticed this was reversed. So, by "white pill", did you mean the white sugar pills that you take for one week out of four? Because if you missed the sugar pills, you should - like your mother said - be completely unaffected by missing them. But, if they were Progestin, it could affect when you get your period and how much blood there is that month.

My girlfriend learned the hard way that missing a few days of BCP can make your period anywhere from a few days to a month or two late. When she finally got her period after, there was much heavier bleeding.

Anyway, I'm not a professional, and all of this is just from personal experience. I'm not qualified - nor will I pretend to be qualified - to give medical advice on this subject. Please talk to your doctor about any concerns, and they can help you a lot more than I can.

Good luck,
Panda
