Hopefully mom has not given you something she had left over as this is wrong for any number of reasons. One it could be the wrong medication & two you never take someone else's medication. With antibiotics you need to take the full course of medication which can be 10 to 15 days of medication or the infection can return. If your are taking someone's leftover medication then you cannot take the full course of the medication.
Should I be correct that you have seen a doctor than there is really nothing you can do but to follow the doctors directions and give the medicine time to work? It will take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours before the medication really kicks in.
You can help the medication by flushing your kidneys and urinary track by drinking plenty of fluids. Water is best. Sodas and any carbonated beverage is bad as is any beverage high in acids such as certain fruit juices like Orange juice and tomato juice.
If in 48 hours after starting the medication, you have not felt any improvement, contact your doctor as there may be a need for a change in medication. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

Don't try to hold it - that just gives the bacteria time to build up and causes more pain when you finally do pee.
