Well, in a couple of days I'm getting braces (yay!) Top and bottom. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on when your teeth get sore, what colours are good, anything! If its to do with braces, please tell me. :) also, if anyone knows how long it takes to get them put on that would be good. Any advice appreciated ! :) xx

Teen2TeenHelp answered Wednesday November 27 2013, 12:22 am: Hey! I've had braces for quite a long time before I finally took them off a couple years ago. The time it takes to get them off all depends on what the problem is. For example, when I got braces, it was because my mouth didn't have enough space to let my adult teeth grow in properly with enough space. So for at least 4-6 months I had to wear spacers to produce a gap in my teeth. For about a year, I had to wear expanders in my upper jaw to widen the space up there as well. There are a lot of people whom I know who had braces never had to use those. When your teeth get sore, it can be pretty painful for a couple of days because your root is moving in your gums. My advice is to eat soft foods around this time because anything hard will irritate your teeth and cause pain. Also, keep wax in handy (you'll receive this from your orthodontist). Wax is for any tips of the braces that might irritate your gums with the braces on. Sometimes, orthodontists mis-average the wiring in your mouth and if you don't realize this until your next appointment, it can be pretty painful. Also, make sure you get special floss for braces. It is to help clean between the braces when you get food stuck there. (Trust me, food will get stuck between your braces from time to time). Any color is also good. Try changing them seasonally. Christmas is coming up, you can do red and green. Honestly, it's up to you and what you feel comfortable wearing. They do not take long to put on either. It can take about 20 min-45min total, depending on how fast/slow the orthodontist is. Enjoy! You're well on your way to perfect teeth! [ Teen2TeenHelp's advice column | Ask Teen2TeenHelp A Question ]
