Hi everybody I have two questions. First I want to get a tattoo on the side of my forearm ...I'm not sure what of... But I was thinking my first and middle name. So my first question is... Is it weird to get your own name tattooed to yourself? I feel like it is a little odd but I'm just wondering if it actually is. And my second question right now I am hairdressing but want to go to college to be a cosmotology teacher... Or a therapist... Or maybe an FBI agent.. I am obviously very in decisive but would a tattoo that couldn't be easily hidden like on my forearm stop me from pursuing a job I may want? Or do employers look more past tattoos now? Thank you!

Getting your own name is so over done and not original at all. You need to wait until you have lived awhile. Tattoos should be an expression of who you are, they should tell a story not simply be a stamp of your name of all things. Wait until you find an amazing artist, save up the money and have something very specific and important. You want a piece of art a portrait that tells an important and unique story. Now is NOT the time for you. As for jobs they can hinder and I doubt the FBI will want someone with their name on their arm. They want people that don't have identifying marks. While you might find someone who will employ you if you take out your piercings...that happened to my daughter, a tattoo isn't so easily removed. So why go through the pain and cost of having one placed where wearing shorter pants, or skirts or sleeveless tops is going to show off tats. I have heard that it isn't always satisfactory when one tries to get tats removed.
So if you must have one, choose upper thigh, lower back, somewhere that your underwear covers, stomach...you get the idea. However, for those who see it as a work of art and want to show it off, they may not want to keep it covered. If thats your case, you;ll just have to roll with the consequences later. I do not know of anyone who has their own name tattoed on theirselves. Depending on the situations you come across in life, you may not want your name visible on your body. Imagine some guy you dont know who asks you out and wont take no for an answer but you say no and leave. He have your name from your tattoo and starts asking around and may have it easier tracing you down to stalk you. Then again maybe not. If it were my choice, I wouldn't want to display my name on my body. I want the option to remain anonymous in case the situation calls for it. The point of tattoos are that they are an expression of yourself and what you believe in and stand for, so if thats what you want do you! Something tells me that being a hairdresser and therapist it really shouldn't matter but it should be easily hidden depending on what shirts you wear, and the position of the tattoo. I'm not really sure if you are a girl or guy or not so it kinda depends on what you wear. I would check with being an FBI just because I know being a cop over where I live they have stopped selecting cops with tattoos, that can MAYBE be visible. So I would actually check with the actual FBI. [ Lilz's advice column | Ask Lilz A Question ]
