If you and any younger siblings are being neglected then you need to speak to someone. Not ironing your clothes is not neglecting you as you are old enough to iron your own clothes. If she is not shopping for food, cooking good meals, seeing to it that you and your younger siblings are in good health and have clean and serviceable cloths. That constitutes neglect.
What can you do about it. First you need to find a trusted adult you can go do. If your parents are divorced and you can contact your dad he is the first person you should call. If dad is not in the picture or will not help then an Aunt, Uncle or Grandparent should be contact and asked to help.
If they can't help or their help is refused or does not work. The only option left is to go to the nearest police or fire station. These are safe havens for children. Child neglect is also child abuse. The fire fighters or the police will contact the proper agency to contact your mom and get her the help she needs. They can by law force her to get the help she needs.
What is happening with mom is a relatively new phenomenon for the medical profession and is treated much like alcoholics are treated. Through therapy and programs like aa.
Mom is right when she says she is the older, she is wrong when she says she can do this herself. Addictions are almost impossible to overcome without professional help and guidance. So talk to a trusted relative who mom might listen to. If she won't, which is most likely. Then you have no alternative than to ask for state assistance to force mom to get help.
You are old enough to care for yourself if forced to. You should not have to. If you have younger siblings they are not old enough to care for themselves and you should not have to take on that burden. The right thing to do is if need be, is to ask for help from the state agencies designated to provide this help. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

If you have younger siblings and they are being neglected, she may need to get some counseling. As the child, there's nothing you can do to get her to pick up her responsibilites. Talk to a school counselor and see what they suggest. Without anyone in your house to see what is really going on, no one will want to interfere. They may believe it is just a teen who is blowing things out of proportion because she is upset that mom isn't available as much as before. If you think its a real health hazard, no meals for kids and so on....I found find some adult to ask for help to come talk to your mom and see for themselves what the situation looks like at your house. Computer games can be addicting and I have read a story of a young married young who were both on line all day long ignoring their newborn baby. Crazy crap does happen. Try everyone you can think of, relatives, if your mom has any friends, if you attend church, your pastor or priest, and the school counselors. Good luck dear [ Dragonflymagic's advice column | Ask Dragonflymagic A Question ]
