Can you get your arteries unclogged?

Question Posted Tuesday July 9 2013, 5:40 pm

My mom went to a heart doctor and he said that she has an artery clogged in her heart and in her neck. He said it was plaque. She smokes & she says that she's going to quit, she's been trying to eat healthier and she exercises a couple of times a month. Can it be unclogged by surgery or something? Can she die from it?

Additional info, added Wednesday July 10 2013, 10:08 am:
She works out a couple of times a week, not month.

I'm sorry, dude.

It seems that they can be unclogged with surgery, but it's a major deal. And yes - you can die from it or worse (there's worse things than dying: living with the aftermath of a stroke can be one of them).

Depending on how bad it is, your mom is in for a rough time.
