Hello. I have a russian hampster and she squeaks everytime I put my hand in the cage to feed him! Why does she do this. I have never hurt her and don't have any children or animals which can spook her so why does she keep on squeking?

I put "Why do hamsters squeek a lot" An article on dwarf hamsters came up saying they squeek louder than other types but they all squeek for the same reasons. Mainly its a fear isssue. Either they don't like how aggressive another hamster is or they haven't been handled much by a human yet so they don't know it they will be hurt or not. The fear is due to how small they are compared to your size. Once you have gently handled your hamster often, she will know that you mean it no harm and the squeeking should stop. I can't say whether it will have a personality of its own and squeek briefly to greet you later but now you know. It's normal, nothing to worry about.
