When you do this then the people who do these things win for they are not only seeking to harm those that get hurt by what they do. They are also trying to do what you are writing about. Scaring people to stay at home, not to go to work or school.
Our countries military are fighting a war right now against people who do just that. The Taliban do not want female children to go to school So they use guns, bombs and fear to keep them at home. When the young girls stay home then the Taliban win. This is very wrong.
People look at firefighters and police officers as heroes because they run towards things that most people run away from out of fear. I'm a retired firefighter. I'm not a hero and neither are any of the others or the police officers. We are people who really are just as scared as you may be but we trust our training and ability to do what needs to be done to keep you and others safe.
You need to be somewhat like us and trust that those of us in emergency service will do all we can to keep you safe. TO trust we will find these people or the devices they use to terrorize before they can harm you. We all are very good at what we do to this effect. What happened yesterday is still being investigated. When we find out the why of how it happened, then we can take steps to prevent it from happening again.
The facts are as to what has happened, these senseless acts, you actually live in one of the safest countries on the planet. The chances of this happening to you are very, very small. To small to allow any one of these events to paralyze you in fear.
As the police are constantly saying. Your eyes are their most valuable asset. You know your school and neighborhood better then anyone else. If something doesn't look right report it. They would much rather investigate a false alarm then the real thing. Just be vigilant an you will be safe. If you see something that is not right, someone that doesn't belong there report it to faculty or police. But don't live in fear for then the bad guys win and that's wrong. However, I wouldn't let it put you off doing what you do, after all part of going to school is planning for the future, try and concentrate on that rather than the chances of bad things happening, after all you are just as likely to be struck by lightning and run over by a bus as to someone coming after you.
Also if it helps, arrange trips out or to school and back with friends or as a young-ish adult member of your family to take you to school or where ever you need to get to. I know street cred is important and you probably don't want your parents taking you everywhere but explain how you feel about it and talk about it with them.
