AD/HD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is a person that has trouble staying on task for any period of time and also cannot, in simple terms, sit still.
In school aged children it is also an over used or over diagnosed disorder to have children put on a powerful drug to control the disorder. It takes a trained specialist doctor to diagnose this illness, not teachers or the school psychologist. The Doctor best trained to diagnose this disorder should be a Board Certified psychiatrist.
In some states a psychologist with a PHD in psychology can write prescriptions for certain drugs which would include drugs to control AD/HD. Hopefully your friends parents took your friend to a psychiatrist rather than possibly accepting the school psychologists diagnoses.
If your friend is close to your age; some of the effects of puberty and AD/HD mimic each other. This is why a proper doctor needs to make the diagnoses.
