How do you become a youtube partner?

I monetized one of my videos to become a youtube partner or whatever. How do you get the money for views?

Well these days its as easy as signing up. In the old days you had to actually apply. On my account, I just click at the top right where it says "video manager" and then at the top of the page, over my videos, it asks if I want to be a partner.
