I get paranoid too much!

Question Posted Monday March 4 2013, 2:44 am

13/F

Everytime someone says something unusual, I always find something bad from if. Example: If someone says "Knife", I'll automatically think that person HAS one or will end up having one.

I get paranoid a lot and I can't get medication for it. What can I do? :(

seems youre always on survival mode, like you protect yourself all the time, not trusting others.
Since you are asking for help, that is the first step in realising that this is not acceptable behavior since we live in a society of people trusting each other.
Now, i think you can overcome this day by day taking baby steps.
Only mingle with people who are trust worthy. For example your parents. or children (who will not lie), teachers, people from the church, OR total strangers who would not lie to you like the baker, the pharmacist who are trustworthy to tell you everyday simple truths.
You have to reinforce the fact that people are not out to get you or deceive you or threaten you in any way.
Try to be a good example by not lying also... so others will treat you equally good.
avoid jokes and pranks.
Try to find the good in everyone.
Try to understand the motives in everyones actions. Its hard to judge (it is Wrong actually) and we dont know where they are coming from thats why they act that way but just trust them and trust in a higher being that you will be alright and nothing will harm you.
Believe that good attracts good. so be good and everything will be alright!
Dont worry too much!
Write in a journal!
Am sure you will get better soon!

As you can see by the information I have provided below there are different types of paranoid. There is Paranoid (PPd) and Paranoia. They each have different symptoms Ans treatments as well as medications that can be prescribed.

Your family(GP)doctor is not qualified to treat or in some cases even properly diagnose these disorders. It takes a specialist such as a Board Certified psychiatrist as both of these disorders are mental health diseases.

I'm not a doctor none of us are. what I will say is it is normal to be a little paranoid at times. If you are truly concerned after reading what little information I have lifted from 2 websites.

Then I suggest you go to your parents, show them the information I found for you and explain how this fits the way you feel about yourself. Then ask them to get you an appointment with a board certified psychiatrist.

It is important that the doctor be board certified in psychiatry as this means he/she has taken special courses and a fellowship in psychiatry. In some states if a doctor takes as part of their residency a psychiatric residency they can practice psychology but they are not as qualified as the board certified doctor.

Paranoia
Definition
Paranoia is an unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are "out to get them." Paranoid Personality Disorder (From WebMD)

Paranoid personality disorder (PPD) is one of a group of conditions called "Cluster A" personality disorders which involve odd or eccentric ways of thinking. People with PPD also suffer from paranoia, an unrelenting mistrust and suspicion of others, even when there is no reason to be suspicious.

This disorder usually begins by early adulthood and appears to be more common in men than in women.

What Are the Symptoms of Paranoid Personality Disorder?

People with PPD are always on guard, believing that others are constantly trying to demean, harm, or threaten them. These generally unfounded beliefs, as well as their habits of blame and distrust, might interfere with their ability to form close relationships. People with this disorder:
Doubt the commitment, loyalty, or trustworthiness of others, believing others are using or deceiving them
Are reluctant to confide in others or reveal personal information due to a fear that the information will be used against them
Are unforgiving and hold grudges
Are hypersensitive and take criticism poorly
Read hidden meanings in the innocent remarks or casual looks of others
Perceive attacks on their character that are not apparent to others; they generally react with anger and are quick to retaliate
Have recurrent suspicions, without reason, that their spouses or lovers are being unfaithful
Are generally cold and distant in their relationships with others, and might become controlling and jealous
Cannot see their role in problems or conflicts and believe they are always right
Have difficulty relaxing
Are hostile, stubborn, and argumentative
