I don't know what your situation is. Is it to be able to revise for exams? Is it just general knowledge?

Either way, the reason is probably because you don't understand it. We remember stuff that interests us the most and that we can understand.

So I guess it depends what kind of learner you are: visual, kinetic or audial.

If you look this us theres loads of stuff on line including help trying to work out what type of learner you are. Once you know that, you can get tips on how to learn things your way.
So if you're an audial learner, you need to get your head out of a book and watch informative clips instead, as theats how you learn.

Try to do so by drawing pictures which will help you remeber it more easily. Or write some sort of famoous sentences which include the language you're having trouble with. It's not all that hard.
Hope I helped somewhat.
