Lump on side of neck

Question Posted Tuesday December 25 2012, 6:01 am

Hi, I am an 18 year old female. I have had a painless lump on the side of my neck for almost two years and it has not gone away. It does not hurt or cause any disconfort for me. I asked my doctor what it could be, and she told me it was just a pimple (which does not make sense! It's under the skin and fairly large for acne (size of a quarter) and has not gone away.) I also have experienced frequent bloddy noses, fatigue, and headaches. I feel like I have a low grade fever most days, and sore throats off and on.

Do you think this is "just a pimple"? Lol, or should I get a new doctor?! Any ideas of what it could be?

-Blessings, Vee

Well Vee, it sounds like it could just be a lymph node. They do vary in sizes. I have one on the right side of my neck that is the size of a quarter, but that is due to a minor sinus infection, and another one on the other side of my neck the size of a dime. Here is a site with more information about lymph nodes

Also, if it's swollen that much, and your doctor doesn't do anything about it, perhaps you should try seeing another physician. Just for precautions. As for the Fatigue, it could be due to your frequent bloody noses, as well as headaches. These are enough to tire anyone out. Be sure to drink plenty of water, and eat healthy. If you're not a vegetarian, eat some beef. It'll help replenish lost iron and hopefully help with the fatigue. But regardless, I would still suggest seeing another doctor for a second opinion. Just to be safe.

Have a safe and happy holiday:) And good luck ^_^
