My best friends birthday is in a week. He is turning 18. I wanted this gift to be the best one yet. I'm leaving for college next week too so all our friends are doing his birthday and my going away party.
I'm thinking of doing a gift basket type of thing. Like candy and a gift card but I have no clue what else. I have ideas but I'm almost broke. I can't spend a lot of money cause I'm gonna need as much as I can when I go.
So any cheap ideas? It would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Additional info, added Monday August 20 2012, 10:04 pm: Also, his interests are really just guitar, music, and video games.
He's a typical guy and I really can't spend a lot of money. So anything creative that's either random, nice, or funny would be awesome. Thanks! I also decided to make cookies and get a picture frame with a picture of our group of friends.. Want to answer more questions in the Relationships category? Some things she got me include: jewellery, video games, a bag, etc, etc.
Last year was her 18th, and I decided to do her something really special! I got an empty box. It was a large gift box. I then covered it with fancy looking jacquard paper? Then I filled it with tissue paper. I included these things in it:
- A picture frame with various photo's from FB, and other ones. I included pictures of some of the places where we had the most fun
-Funny/stupid e-mails/texts
- Mike n Ikes (we once ate like 12 bags together, just talking away)
- 'Emergency toilet paper' - it's a roll of toilet paper in a card box, with a sheet of plastic in front that says "break in case of emergency". This goes back to a story once when a bunch of friends all booked hotel rooms. We caused havoc, but I was woken up at 3am by her, asking for toilet paper because someone robbed hers
- A cheap alarm clock, because she always wakes up late
- Some cinnamon rolls - Me and her once attempted to make some one day, and they were amazing. So I had a go myself.
- A CD with all the stupid songs that we've had good times to. This included a song from a band, whose concert we went to (our very first concert), "me so horny" by 2 Live crew (because it's hillarious!) and Lady Gaga's "Love Game" because she was once drunk and danced to it in the middle of a park.
As you can see, the key is to make it as personal as possible. So if he plays guitar, get him some nice guitar picks? If he likes listening to music, make a CD of his favorite songs? If he likes video games, find out which one he wants, and get it. Get a pre-owned version if too expensive. But even if you don't have money, just do whatever is personal.

But what about pre-orderinng black ops 2 and then getting a gift card so that he doesn't have to pay for it when the game is actually released. or you could do something from his fav band/artist.
