Hormonal imbalance, or pregnant?

Question Posted Wednesday May 2 2012, 5:44 pm

While I was on my period, i decided to stop taking my birth control & had sex WHILE i was on my period. Now i'm 20 days late, is this an imbalance because of my birth control, or could i be pregnant? help please!

From your question, you're stressing the word WHILE- like there shouldn't be a problem. Don't listen to the user below me. You can get pregnant on, or off your period. It doesn't matter when you have sex, if its unprotected, you can get pregnant.

The only reason why I know this, is because my best friend was on birth control, and she stopped taking it, and while she was on her period, she had sex, and she got pregnant.

You could be 20 days late because:

1) your birth control is out of wack.
2) you're pregnant.
3) you're stressing too much over whether or not you're pregnant.

I know, when I had sex with my fiance' unprotected, he used the 'pull out' method, and my period was 2 months late because I was stressing so so bad about being pregnant. The more you stress about being pregnant, the more you're body will start making changes, making you think you are pregnant; which can delay you're period.

You're best bet is to buy a home pregnancy test. Take it first thing in the morning (your first pee of the day, is always the most accurate-because it isn't flushed with drinking fluids and foods) follow the directions carefully, and if its negative than wait another week, and take another, if that one is negative, than chances are you aren't pregnant.

Now personally, home pregnancy tests didn't relieve me at all. I still freaked out. People say home pregnancy tests aren't accurate at all, but I beg to differ.

If you don't feel any ease, you can go to a health clinic and get a blood test done, those are 100% accurate.

I did that, and they told me my results would come in the next day; sure enough I woke up, and I was on my period! The result was negative as well.

When you are on your period it's not as likely that you will get pregnant. 14 days AFTER your period is when you are fertile so that's the part you should worry about. Since you siad it's been 20 days you can take a test but I don't think you are pregnant. Sounds like its an imbalance in your hormones since you just abruptly stopped taking it.

Hey there,

Did you have unprotected sex? Because if you did there is a very high chance you could be pregnant.
It's very possible you could have a hormone imbalance. However it is more plausible that you are pregnant. Take a home pregnancy test. It's the only way to know for sure. If it turns up negative go to the doctor for a blood test to determine a possible hormone imbalance.
This can be easily regulated with pills.
Good luck and I hope I helped
